The draft is very important in the NFL and the NBA.... In either of those leagues you have a decent chance of drafting someone who will be the corner stone of your frachise, especially in then NBA... With MLB the first pick isn't that big of a deal and there is a pretty good chance he'll just end up as a decent player and there is even a chance he'll never end up doing anything in MLB... I'm not that much into baseball so am I wrong in this assumption? I wish there was some kind of silver lining where the DBacks were concerned...

No silver lining yet, unless they dump Joe Jr. Talk about a massive silver lining!

What are the odds that the first pick becomes a great player?
In today's game I would be more concerned that the 1st pick would even sign with my team. They want huge signing bonuses (thanks Scott Boras) and baseball draft picks, more than any other sport have no guaranteed returns.

There have been only a handful of "can't miss" prospects that have actually turned out to match the hype.

The Dbacks wouldnt have the 1st over-all selection regardless if they finish with the worst record in the Majors or not.....

Each year, the 1st over-all alternates between who had the worst record in either the NL or AL, and this past year it was the Padres who had the 1st over-all selection....

Silver linings for the 2004 season:

1) Finley, Bautista, and RJ are having excellent years which makes their trade value pretty high even though they're all older players.

2) This year's horrible preformance has finally made Colangelo realize you can't rebuild while trying to contend.

3) Cutting ties with Brenly mid-season so we can focus in the second half on who we're going to hire to guide the team through the rebuilding process.

4) Sexson getting injured so we're not going to have to pay him eight figures a year when he reaches free agency this winter.
