Any real golf fan knows, Jack Nicklaus has won the Masters a record six times. Did you know he's also tied for the most runner-up finishes at Augusta National Golf Club?

Nicklaus has 18 major championships in all, and he also has 19 second-place finishes in the majors. As for the Masters, he's finished second four times. That ties for the most with Ben Hogan and Tom Weiskopf.

Weiskopf is the only one of the three, however, to not ever win the tournament, as Hogan won two green jackets in 25 career appearances. Nicklaus won his six jackets in 45 appearances. Weiskopf played in the Masters 16 times and made the cut 15 times, but he never broke through.

Most second-place finishes in Masters history

  • Ben Hogan: 1942, 1946, 1954, 1955 (won it in 1951, 1953)
  • Jack Nicklaus: 1964, 1971, 1977, 1981 (won it in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1986)
  • Tom Weiskopf: 1969, 1972, 1974, 1975

In 1975, Weiskopf was the 54-hole leader but Nicklaus drained a 40-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole, which proved to be the key to his one-shot win over Wieskopf and Johnny Miller.

Two of Weiskopf 's runner-up finishes, in fact, were to Nicklaus, in 1972 and 1975.

Weiskopf won the 1977 Par 3 Contest and he does hold one Masters record: His 13 on the par-3 12th in 1980 remains the highest score ever recorded on the hole called Golden Bell.
