Today's paper. I would HATE to see him go. Can't we just make him Ass't GM?

The Diamondbacks could be on the verge of losing Mike Rizzo, the highly regarded scouting director who helped stock what most consider one of the best farm systems in baseball.

According to major league sources, Rizzo is expected to interview for a pair of assistant general manager positions in the coming weeks, one of which is with the Washington Nationals.

Rizzo, who declined comment, will interview in Washington this week for a job working alongside Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden.
Another club also contacted the Diamondbacks and was granted permission to speak to Rizzo.

Rizzo, who was promoted to vice president of scouting operations in November, aspires to be a general manager, and moving beyond scouting amateur players and into a high-ranking front office position would be a step in that direction.

As scouting director, Rizzo has presided over the past six drafts for the Diamondbacks. In March, Baseball America rated Arizona's farm system No. 1 in baseball.

Rizzo has done a great job here but you can't fault him for looking elsewhere. The Diamondbacks already have an assistant GM in Peter Woodfork, so you knew this day would eventually happen. If he can get a better deal than he has here, I say thank you and congratulations.

I would be very angry if he left... not angry at Rizzo, but with the D'Backs organization for not considering him for their GM position when we had an openning. It would be a huge blow to this entire organization if he left to be the GM for someone else.

If he decides to leave then I wish him the best of luck with his new team.

Winning organizations figure out a way to keep their good people.

Or at the very least, bring in good people for tough jobs. Is anyone saying that Byrnes isn't doing a good job as GM? Not to say Rizzo wouldn't...but I'm satisfied with the way the GM position has been handled.
