Another Iowa Hawkeye is hitting the NCAA transfer portal.
Iowa sophomore forward Pryce Sandfort announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Monday, joining sophomore forward Owen Freeman and sophomore guard Brock Harding as Hawkeyes that have entered their names into the portal.
Sandfort averaged 8.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 48.8% from the field, 40.0% from 3-point range and 63.6% from the free throw line in 22.4 minutes of average floor time. The 6-foot-7, 210 pound forward played in all 33 games and started two this season for Iowa.
Sandfort appeared in 65 games for the Hawkeyes over the past two seasons, averaging 5.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on 45.5% field goal shooting and 38.6% 3-point shooting during his Iowa career.
"I want to thank coach McCaffery and the staff for being there for me every step of the way and giving me the opportunity to play for my home state. It has been truly special the past two years to wear the black and gold and share the court with my brother. I will forever cherish the memories I have made with my teammates, managers, coaches, and support staff. Iowa City will always be a special place to me, and I am thankful to have met so many great people throughout my time here.
"After reflecting with my family, I am choosing to enter the portal and am excited to go through this process with an open mind. I'll also be monitoring the Iowa program and will be keeping all of my options open," Sandfort said in his social media announcement.
Sandfort chose Iowa over offers from schools such as Drake, Clemson, Nebraska and Washington State. The Waukee Northwest product was rated as a four-star signee, as the No. 2 player from Iowa, as the No. 20 small forward and as the No. 99 player overall in the 2023 class per 247Sports.
