So I take it Harry, you seem to think the Cards are leaning toward cornerback.
Lets assume Rolle,Jones and Rodgers are all available when we pick. Who do we take?
Lets add this. What if the 3 above are available along with Benson and Cadillac Williams?

Ok Harry, you're on the clock!

I was just trying to indicate how the draft sets up position by position. If your scenario held, I expect the Cards' board would have Williams first, Rolle second and Benson third. I'm okay with Williams or Benson. If they go corner, I prefer Rodgers.

I'm concerned

Lately I'm finding myself in agreement with Harry up and down the board. (I wonder if it's catching).

The biggest and most intriguing aspect of this Cardinal draft involves aspects of Henry for Shelton trade talks with any deal expected to not be consummated til Draft day and (depending on who you talk to) involve either a demand by Buffalo for more than a straight-up trade or a similar demand by the Cardinals.

So the questions remain: By the time we pick at #8, (a) will we have already filled a need at RB? and (b) will there be an adjustment of where we pick (and how many picks we have) by the time we draft?

Harry seems to feel (and I tend to agree) that, whether we land Henry or not, the Cardinals will pass on a RB at #8 in favor of a CB; but there are a lot of good RB options available to us at #44 or later. Regardless of the Henry situation, I think we'll draft a RB somewhere during rounds 2 - 5, and we'll land a good one.

Yesterday there were several NFL scouts in Fayetteville looking at Matt Jones again. His workouts at end he is developing hands of glue. I do not think he dropped a ball. One of the Titan scouts was on TV talking about him. Jerry Jones has very close ties with Arkansas where he graduated and is always in town. You can bet he will be in the mix for Matt Jones as will Nick Saban who watched him for 4 years against LSU. I think a lot of these people are not talking about Jones much thinking they can steel him in some later round. I now think he goes in round 2. You just do not come across athletes his size who can run that fast, throw the ball that far, jump that high. You cannot teach this stuff and I do not care if he ever played receiver or TE or not. To much God given talent that rarely shows up in a football player. He is going to be a nightmare for DB's with all sorts of options and plays you can design for him. Someone is going to get very lucky when they sign Matt Jones. I am now of the opinion I would take him in round 2 and make him a TE. No problem for him to add 10-15 lbs and bring him up to 255 or more. He is one big muscular guy who moves like a 6' RB. He will catch the ball and he will hang on to it. What DB is going to jump with a dunking basketball power forward with giant hands running a 4.37-4.39.

I remain of the opinion we take one of the top 3 RB's if we have not signed a FA RB. We take a CB in round 2 (wished it was Matt Jones instead). I think we actually need 2 RB's so look for us to draft a 2nd one somewhere in the draft. I think a RB would have more impact than a CB at this point and a CB will take more time to develop. Green wants results now. With our problems at DB I still wonder why we are not signing a guy we already have and who has experience???????? At CB experience really counts. A bird in the hand is oft worth two in the bush. I learned that in English Lit 101.

I actually agree with you. I wish we'd get Henry and Surtain, and resign Hill pre-draft, then take:

Rd1 - OLB Derrick Johnson :D
Rd2 - WR/TE Matt Jones
Rd3 - OG Chris Kemoeatu
Rd3b - Traded to Miami w/Clement for Surtain
Rd4 - CB Antonio Perkins
Rd5 - Sproles, Sheldon, Parrish (anyone who can be KR/PR)
Rd7 - Maurice Clarett

Matt Jones is on record as wanting to not add weight and to play WR, not TE. So you can't draft him with the idea of making him a TE.

Shannon Sharpe, on national tv at the Blue Gray game, said he was a WR not a TE, it's one of the reasons he was drafted in the 7th round when he had quite a bit of name recognition(from his brother) and he was listed as a sleeper by a lot of people. Sharpe played 1 year at WR for Denver, did nothing, and then Shanahan convinced him to move to TE and the rest was history.

Jones is quite a bit faster than Sharpe was he has the speed to play WR but I don't know if he has the quickness, there's a lot more to getting open than just straight ahead speed and he'll have a much tougher time beating CB's than he would beating LB's and Safeties at TE.

Yeah, I know he said that. And I wouldn't make him a full time TE, I'd move him around, sometimes out wide, sometimes at TE. He may take a few years to develop, but I think he's going to be awesome.

My first child is sitting right next to me, but you're welcome to take him for a week or two :D . Clement, Shelton, and Thompson would save us almost 3 mil, putting us close to 9 mil in cap space, more than enough to sign those 3. I'm composing a letter to Green and Graves as we speak.

Russ: Matt is exceptionally quick even for a big man. In the quickness drills you would have to see them to believe them. He moves faster than my cat and can change direction with the best of them. They showed them on TV in our area. Being a basketball forward he had to have quickness. What has been impressing me his his catching skills. They do a lot of film of him we see in Little Rock. Seems to catch everything anywhere near him and with his big hands he makes it look easy. There have been scouts comming and going up at Fayetteville for the past week. Jerry Jones was up on the hill checking him out. I really think with Jones connection to Arkansas and his knowledge of Jones he will be high on Dallas list. Skorp noted Jones had said he did not want to play tight end. He has told the scouts when asked that he thought it would be foolish to have him add 20 lbs and slow down to a 4.5. He did not say he would not play tight end. He has also said he will play where ever he is told as he wants to play in the NFL. This guy is a good team guy and no doubt he will play where ever he is asked. After all he was the backup center and punter or kicker in the recent bowl game. I do not think he is on DG's radar so it would be a very long shot for us to get him as he will be gone no later than round 2 and could go early in that round so I think we are out of the running. He looks like a giant Brad Pitt. He is one of a kind. Clearly I am a homer but his numbers speak for themselves. He is from Oklahoma but around Little Rock a lot these days. He continues to work on his receiving skills every day and when the season comes you can bet he will arrive in camp ready for bear.

Right but not all right Skorp. He told the scouts he thought it would be foolish to have him gain 20 lbs and slow to a 4.5. He has always said he will play where ever his team wants him to play. After all he was the back up center and kicker in the recent bowl game. I love him but clearly do not expect us to get him as I doubt he is on DG's radar. Jerry Jones was in town this week checking on Matt as was a Titan scout and some other scout. My money is on Dallas getting him if at all possible as Jerry Jones follows all the Razorback games. You will hear his named being called next year as a starter. At what position who knows. A lot of NFL scouts are showing up at Fayetteville on a weekly basis for private workouts. The latest I saw he had moved up to the 40th best player in the draft and I expect he is going to go higher than that. This guy is taller than Randy Moss, faster than Randy Moss, not a trouble maker and in fact a team leader, probably can jump as high or higher than Randy Moss and is bigger than Randy Moss. His catching skills are improving daily. I do not rule anything out as he could play QB,TE,wideout. Once he gets into camp it will be interesting to see where he plays not if he plays. I think back to Bullet Bob Hayes. Was not a noted football player but had one thing you could not find. He was the fastest man in the world. He learned to catch real fast and it was all football after that.

Nice job Harry. I agree with just about everything you said. The only position that I see differently is at offensive guard where I think this is an above average draft for guards. I also think that Miami TE Keven Everett will turn out to be the best of this years TEs. Your boy Brandon Jacobs looked good at the combine and I think your right. He does look like another Jerome Bettis.

I didnt read anything after HOOKEM wrote take Derrick Johnson!!!!

I totally agree with that pick as long as we get a RB ahead of time(like Henry or know for sure some stud will be there at 2nd round)... That is the most for sure pick in the defensive side of ball....
