Long time Phoenician!
If I were the Manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks, here's the pep talk I'd give to the players before Monday's game.
"Guys, the next six games are our World Series. After the World Series, one team is the winner. Well, we're two games over .500. All we have to do is split the next six games and we'll be winners.
We don't even have to win four out of seven. We owe it to our fans -- and ourselves.
Is it going to be easy to split the next six games? No! We're on a losing streak (averaging one run per game) except for the one started by the reserves.
You're going to have to work for it. Take what they give you. Don't swing for the fences unless you get your pitch and the situation calls for it. Singles and doubles. Doubles and singles. Hit it between them in the outfield and through the infield.
That's how to score the runs we haven't been scoring. For cripes sake, stop trying to hit every ball into the air. Be selective.
Split the next six and we go home winners. You've worked hard over a long season. You've earned the right to be called winners. And you have the responsibility to assure that our fans can say the same about our Arizona Diamondbacks."
