I have to give the Montreal Canadiens management credit. There was a time this year when it looked like Martin St. Louis was struggling behind the bench and could have been a candidate to be fired. I have seen this happen countless times before with other organizations.
Sometimes numbers can be funny. Kent Hughes stood his ground, supported his coach and now the team is talking about clinching a playoff spot. Nothing has been decided yet but this is a big change compared to how it looked at that time.
In February of 2022, he was named the interim head coach. Most interim coaches don’t become the next head coach and he’s lasted and earned his latest contract. There will always be issues fans can find with how minutes are distributed as an example. No coach is immune to that.
Here’s a fun number I stumbled on via Stat Muse. Here it is. Monday games are great for the Canadiens. They have a 30-19-4 record on Mondays in the regular season, playoffs, all time! They are 5-2 on Monday’s this season. If you happen to hate reporting to work on Mondays, your hockey team doesn’t.
This was my fun fact of the day, maybe the week and maybe the year. Sometimes you find something that may be undeniable and that’s something I thought I’d share. Is there another statistic that’s as strong as this one? Maybe, but I’d have to find that by accident as well.
