K9 is going to blast me but it's all good. But here we go...
I think the player who stands to make the most strides this year is Marcell Shipp. Its probable we won't get AP and will get at least one OT and maybe Fanaca. Shipp will get a lot more carries. He will be running behind a much improved (hopefully after the draft) O Line. He will be rushing for a coach that believes in him and for the first time in his career really a coach has confidence in him. If the Cards run 500 times Edge should get 330-380.

This leaves Shipp with around 120 rushes. Taken in account J.J. should get some touches but not a whole lot. Behind the better O line, better coaching, and the confidence in his coaches Shipp could really excel. Even with a modest 3 YPC that's 360 yards which isn't all that bad. I really think Shipp is going to turn a lot of heads and become the sentimental fan favorite. I predict Shipp will get between 360-500 yards this year. Not bad at all. OF course this all hinges on what happens with AP.

K9 go easy on me!:grabs:

Hey, you could have just pulled up the ol' "Marcel Shipp to win Comeback Player of the Year" thread from two years ago. If you think that 360 yards is "the most strides" of any player on this roster next season, we are going to go 4-12.

3 YPC and 360 yards would mean that Marcel Shipp is exactly who I thought he was: one of the 10 worst #2 RBs in the National Football League.

I think this season surprise players will be...

Leonard Pope, he'll make the most of his second training camp and become a bigger part of the offense.

Roderick Hood, he'll be the starter by the end of the preseason and play extremely well.

Disappointments...

Calvin Pace...again.
Al Johnson...the worst free agent signing the team made this offseason.

When was the last time the Cards had a "surprise" player?

It is one thing that I've always been dissapointed in the Cardinals that they almost never seem to have a guy step up and play way above where the experts expected.

You could make arguments for Boldin and Latui but they were both high second round selections and there were already rumors before the season started in 2003 that Boldin was going to be something special.

Wells, maybe, because he was a 6th round selection from a small school.

The Cardinals legacy is that of the underachiever and almost total failure of their second day draft picks to make any significant contribution. Out of 29 second day selections since 2000 only 4 did much last season. Watson, Wells, Leckey and Antonio Smith.

DCR agrees with every one of these.

I like the first three points on Pope (tons of talent, just needs some direction), Hood (much better than Macklin, and will probably push Green to the nickel as you say), and Pace (horrible pick on our part first of all), but Johnson I disagree on. He only lost his job to Gurode due to an injury, and let's face it Leckey is no Gurode. (If I'm spelling things wrong blame college

Pope and Hood.

Johnson dark horse. The only way I see him not having a very good year is if somehow Kalil dropped to us and we very smartly grabbed him immediately.

On a limb pick...Ross. Just mark it down and we'll revisit later.

Brandon Johnson, LB. I think this guy can be a solid weakside LB. An improve-ment over Huff who made no plays at all.

It's way out there, I'll admit. But I've got a gut feeling about this...

These threads are broken records every season. I hate to say it, but this team is 4-12 every year because the players aren't very good.

Duck, you and Ryan are joy killers. This is not the time to deal in reality.

I think Leckey will beat out Johnson and be our starting center for the next 5 to 6 years. He was a steal and will prove it.

Agree on Leckey and believe Holt will prove to be a total waste of a signing and Francisco will start in his place early in the season.
