Agree. Solid argument. As long as we keep winning just enough to hit the middle of the draft, we are going to be in dire straits .

We can compete. I look for Wilks and his coaching staff to come out firing to prove they belong as a HC/staff. SB to Fitz will be pretty to watch (until SB is carted off the field. LOL)

and that is where we are at, recent changes help to assure it. Keim is in denial thinking we can be truly competitive.... hoping to squeak into the playoffs then praying somehow the team over performs to get to the Championship is not a formula for success.

Agree. Solid argument. 2018 was a 'bridge' year to get to our cap $$$ for FA. Original plan had one injury-riddled QB in CP to get us there, now we have another injury-riddled QB in SB. As long as we keep winning just enough to hit the middle of the draft, we are going to be in dire straits to move up.

Believe we got the best the league had to offer given our circumstances. We just got to make it out of our Division---Seattle is coming back to the pack with the turnover on D; jury is still out on Goff---once the league figures how to counteract their hurry up offense to the line and the OC calling the plays to Goff, he will come back to the pack; JG may be the real deal---but you gotta believe a lot of D coordinators have been reviewing his play now that there is a few games on tape.

Yeah we don't know how the adjustments at the line before the mic cuts out will go. That's a rule that technically is being abused. It was never meant to allow that. Doesn't mean it's illegal, but it's a bit unsportsman in the spirit of the rule. This could change. They could push it back to 20 or 25 seconds, leave it alone and let others copy, or take it away entirely and let every team have communication until 0-5 seconds.

In the meantime, people might figure out Goff and/or start doing the same thing on defense. If offense can make adjustments, so can defense. Not as effectively, but there could be ways to allow that. They could maybe allow more defenders speakers in the helmet, like one per level, and could tell those guys what to audible to.

Seattle might be really bad next year. But if they let Richardson walk, that will free up some cap to make some other moves. Basically their entire core except Wilson, Baldwin, and Wagner are gone. They've lost something like 6 or 7 of their top 10 players. Thomas if they keep him or if he shows up (he's threatening a holdout if they don't restructure, they was talk about trading him reported a ~week ago) would be another key piece returning, but it's not assured.

SF who knows. JG looked great so I won't bet against him, but it still was only a short stretch, five games, and overall they are some knocks on that 5 game win streak.

They barely beat the Bears (whoopy), Texans with Yates at QB (whoopy), Titans good close win at home, Jaguars (good win) at home, and a Rams team resting its starters and Mannion at QB (whoopy).

So that's three whoopy wins and two good home wins, one close. I'm not going to crown them yet. But we shouldn't overlook them either. They could be solid or great, but no one should anoint them.

It's really still mostly about the reputations of JG and John Lynch. While it may be warranted, it's still just hype until they prove it. John Lynch did just trade a center he extended a month ago because he went out and signed one. That's a bit odd.

We will get to the top of the draft the old fashion way---we will have earned by our losing record. Until then we need to keep putting as competitive team as our draft picks and cap space allow. Too much risk for an unknown QB to surrender several drafts especially when the guys at the top spot are just above average starter quality. (I know you are a big Darnold guy---not worth the gamble.)

There are 32 teams that fit your description. Every team looks to make it out of their Division race either by winning it outright or qualifying as a wildcard. Then the second season starts with the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle all the way to the SB trophy. Don't see anything wrong with SK approaching the season with that same strategy.

That's what just happened with the Eagles---who would have predicted that Foles would come off the bench as a backup and go on to be SB MVP? That's the KW story all over again.

ever notice that teams like Pittsburgh, the giants, cowboys... they stay competitive then suddenly have a season or two where they are picking in the top three... then boom, they are back in the playoffs again? Teams like those rarely go 8-8 but miraculously find themselves at the top of the draft in just the right year to get what they need in the draft.

I wish the redbirds could be so lucky.

I disagree on winning the division. That used to be the case, the focus... build your team to win your division. But it is flawed. You have to build your team to win your conference. Thats how you get to the super bowl. when you are built to win your conference you dont depend on luck or over performing in the playoffs because you know your the best team.

case in point... some years back the Raiders were undefeated in their division but failed to make the playoffs... they were 6-10... dominated their division, but didnt go to the dance. But they were built oh so well to win their division.... that tired old line is a sound bite for coaches and GM's to make fans feel better about division banners... but good teams dont brag about division banners hanging in the rafters and a few teams in the league dont even hang them.

P.S.
Nick Foles was a pro bowl QB for the Eagles just about three years ago... it was no surprise he played well, nor was it a surprise the eagles went to the SB... they were clearly the best team in the NFC... though the Vikes were also very good.

If the Pats just built their team to win their division they could go 9-7 every year... but they are built to beat Pittsburgh instead... because Bilichek understands its about winning league championships and not division championships

if Keim were smart, he would build this team to beat Philly and the Vikes, not seattle and the lambs...we could go 10-6, win the division,..and never beat anybody in the division
