Boss Dario Vidosic said "it is a nice reflection of the programme" to have three Brighton players called-up to the senior England squad for the first time.

Midfielder Maisie Symonds received her first senior call-up for the upcoming games against Belgium, Fran Kirby returned to the squad and Nikita Parris was also called-up.

"It is a nice reflection of the program to have three current Lionesses and many other nationalities coming from the club," he said. "It's more credit to the girls for the hard work they put in and its deserved.

"I got the call from Sarina to let me know and when she mentioned Maisie as well you're even more excited because it's a maiden call-up.

"We're all very happy for her. She said she has been very emotional and crying. It shows what it means and I know what it means when you get that phone call. That first one is one you never forget. I know the meaning and the weight it carries when you get to represent your country."

Here are more lines from Vidosic before Sunday's game against Manchester City (14:00 BST):

  • Brighton are facing a "wounded animal" in City after their Champions League exit but Vidosic said "we have to be prepared for their best version because if City get going we know how good they are."
  • He isn't worrying about securing a fifth-placed finish: "We want to finish as high as we can. It doesn't take much bearing until that final whistle is blown."
  • On Kirby, Parris and Kiko Seike each scoring five goals, he said: "It's something we wanted to have more contributions towards the goal. We wanted to be not so much predictable but have more people in goalscoring situations. We have created a lot of really good chances that we have been unable to put away. The positive is we are still creating chances."
