Haider Ali, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan, three players named in Pakistan’s squad, were all tested in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Their test results show that all three have Covid-19; none of the trio previously had symptoms. All three players have immediately gone into self-isolation for at least a week. The requirements would seem to make it impossible for any of the players to be on the chartered flight to Manchester this Sunday, given the risk of infecting other members of Pakistan’s 29-man squad. Before the flight to England, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been doing coronavirus tests on all players and officials who are due to make the trip. It is believed that not all results for the touring party have yet come in. It remains possible that the players could rejoin the squad at a later date, but this would cause significant logistical problems, with it implausible that England could afford a second chartered flight after the players had recovered. But Pakistan could yet try and explore alternative ways for the players to reach England.
