I cannot understand what the hell is going on? Did Bidwill take over? What the hell? I will not renew next year, this is absolutely unbelievable....and to top it off, I get this cheesy email below from the Suns today.....When Marbury was traded, the Suns sent me a letter asking for patience and understanding, and justifying their trade...I can't wait to see the next cheesy letter they send, trying to justify this trade...when I do, I will post it here.............................Where's my refund?

I can easily see how a season-ticket holder would feel deceived and screwed out of his money after the Marbury trade. However today's trade is going to make absolutely no difference for the rest of the games this season. If anything helps because he guarantees he won't see Tom Gugliotta anymore.

I think this was a bad trade. I think we gave away too much to save some money. However I don't think it is a disaster that some people around here are making it out to be.

Why isn't this a disaster? It shows whats most important to management and it isn't winning...

That's true, but it DOES affect next season, in that it didn't help us at all--in fact, it took away a draft pick that could either have been used or at least packaged in a trade.

What's sad about that is it's been Jerry Colangelo's motto for years and years. And now, finally, the door has been closed on his deception.

I hope this feeling goes away, but I am so angry right now.

Ok, Joe, fair enough. With this in mind, how do you think this contributes to the Phoenix Suns eventually win a championship? If anything it hurts our chances. Why did we even take Clark and Handlogten in the first place? Why not just trade Googs, the picks and cash for nothing? That's essentially what we did.

Clearly the Utah Jazz were not willing to pay all of the remainder of Tom Gugliotta's salary, so they unloaded those players on the Suns. I agree with you guys that it is frustrating that the Phoenix Suns unloaded so much potential talent in draft picks to save themselves money, but to me it's understandable. I mean they are a business. We're not talking about chump change either. If the figures I've heard today were correct that's enough money to pay the rest of Howard Eiseley's contract.

That's nice, but it isn't going to pay off Howard Eisley's contract. What good does that savings do me? For that matter, what does that savings do for Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson and Mike D'Antoni? Nothing.

Rather than start a new thread I'll just post in this one. I just want to point out that the Suns aren't avoiding the Luxury Tax. They will also share in recieving money from teams that have to Pay the tax. I think it was figured last year that teams under the salary cap would recieve about $10 million in Luxury Tax revenue on average. If that is still the case than the Suns are doing a lot more than saving $6 million or whatever in luxury tax payments. They're gaining another $10 million which can go towards a free agent next year. It may not make this trade go down any easier. But it does make the cost savings far more substantial.

I'm not one who feels that the Colangelos are suddenly cheapscapes. I see this as a one opening for them to cut all of the dead weight they've had so that they can start fresh next year.

The Colangelos have always spent big money on free agents. I don't think that'll stop. But there were only so many bad contracts they could absorb. Enough was enough. If they had done nothing this team would have been stuck for the next couple of years. Now they have all the flexability in the world. I'm willing to see what happens next summer before I reserve judgement. I honestly don't think the Colangelos are "mailing" it in. I simply think they're doing as they've said. Preparing to reload next year. And I think they will.

It hurts to lose draft picks. But how young can this team go? You can't win with an entirely young team. You have to get some veterans and I think that's the plan obviously.

That's my positive spin on it anyway. I guess we've got all offseason to see if anything changes. Lets hope.

Googs was gone anyway... we were gonna be able to start
fresh next year anyway... now with one less 1st round pick.
I appreciate the positive spin, and since I am new to the board,
you don't know how I feel about things... I am an extremely
positive fan... even when other people say bad things about
Suns I always defend them... this day is the first day I have
been really pissed since the Rick Robey/Dennis Johnson trade..
All the others I could live with...
And I'll live with this one too, cause I am a lifetime Suns fan..
But geez....

I'd like to know if that is true--that seems like a huge amount.

And it can't be used to get free agents because the salary cap number prevents us from it. Colangelo could have 75 million available, but he can't sign free agents making his payroll more than 44 million or whatever it is. Trading is a possibility of course, but we don't really have anything left to offer.

Welcome to the board, even though this is kind of a sad day to join our little family... :D

Thank you Chaplin, I appreciate the welcome. I've browsed this
board for awhile, always liked your comments.
I have often thought how rough it would be to be a Suns fan
in LA...the Laker fans I know in Tucson are pretty rough, and
they are in my town!! There is this one LA fan at work that
likes to come by , and I'm always too busy to talk to him!
I don't need his smugness...
I'll bet you do OK against them tho!!

The trick is to be realistic about both the Suns and the Lakers--a lot of smart Laker fans will respect that -- some won't though. :D

But also, always, and I mean always, proclaim the fact that you're a Suns fan--even when you're doing poorly! :p

You are right (I do talk to the guy at work sometimes, and I
give him his due)... part of the fun of sports is the tit-for-tat
between your friends that follow other teams. It is a big part of
it... and I've found if you aren't too brutal when you are winning,
they, for the most part, are decent to you when they win.
But it is alot of what makes watching and following teams
fun.

I seem to be about the only one that doesn't feel 'cheated' by this trade. IMO, the worst thing about it and the Knicks trade is that they reduce the chances that we'll get some new blood where we need it most - in the team ownership ranks. That's going to be the only thing that stops the parade of inept head coaches Jerry has been foisting on the team for thirty odd years. I guess I'm just going to have to outlive Jerry, if I ever want to see a championship here.
