Sportscenter just reported that the Tigers traded for Willis and Cabrera. Here is what Peter Gammons says on his blog:

"The Tigers have won the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes. Detroit acquired Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis for six players -- Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three minor league prospects."

That's just not fair.

It's a great deal for both teams.

It was obvious that Cabrera was not going to be a Marlin beyond 2007. This package they get in return is absolutely disgusting for Florida, getting 3 of Detroit's top 5 prospects and another two in their top 20.

Cameron Maybin is going to be a MONSTER. The guy has .300, 30-60 potential and fills a huge void at CF.

Andrew Miller has ace potential. At worst, I see him being as good as Verlander. At best, the sky's the limit.

Cruz has a wicked fastball that hits 100+ and an equally sickening curve.

For Detroit, they now have a fantastic 1-3.. I'll put Verlander, Bonderman and Willis up there with any pitching staff in baseball.. Adding Cabrera to that lineup.. Wow.. Boston and the Yanks now has some competition.

I'm really stunned the Angels let this deal get away. Sorry, but for a team looking for a 40 homer bat as badly as LAA is, Torii Hunter's not going to cut the mustard.

I dont see a team in the NL being able to win the World Series with the Red Sox/Tigers/Angels/Yankees all standing in their way... it's unreal

willis is going to be reunited with Pudge and moved away from the FL pitching coaches who overtweaked a good thing - this will help him out and he'll be very formidable in detroit

cabrera is a beast now

hate to give up a guy who has sure fire HOF all over him for any # of prospects - but such is life as a marlins fan

hopefully the stadium deal will be ironed out before too long

Willis isn't any good, but Cabrera is going to be a beast for them.

Willis will fit in that rotation behind Verlander, Bonderman,Rogers. He only has to be the #4 or #5 pitcher. Hell, he would make a great long reliever, set up man. The Tigers now have snagged Renteria, Willis and the real Cabrera. They may have gutted their farm system, in the process, but they look good for 3 years.
Ordonez will probably repeat or exceed last years MVP ( shoulda been ) performance, with Cabrera hitting behind or in front of him. What a freaking line up. Suppose Sheffield rehabs back? 3/4/5 in that batting order is scary good. Now sandwich Renteria, Pudge and Polanco around them. Ouch. Oh where will Marcus Thames and Curtis Granderson hit. This team is a veritable lock for 110 wins. Dombrowski is a genius.

This is freaking ridiculous. Move the damn team to Las Vegas. Make them an AL West team, and move the Pirates into the NL East.

MLB, in essence , owns the Marlins. They, lent Loria the money. If they don't agree with what he is doing, they can call in the note. It is a joke. Rather than contract, they float the Marlins a loan.

Which is what the Angels are paying Gary Matthews Jr.

So.. Gary Matthews Jr. is now worth more than an entire franchise payroll.

I like the deal for the Marlins, but Jeffery Loria really needs to be removed as owner and should be forbidden to ever own a professional sports franchise again. He did this same garbage with the Expos. To me, it's a disgrace this pile of garbage has a World Series ring.

it's way more complicated then just ownership and in fact one of the bigger villans for the marlins would be everyones boston hero - john henry

then you throw in the every entertaining south florida political landscape and you get over a decade of mind numbing decisions, stagnation and no stadium

Don't forget Carlos Guillen who will now play 1B. This lineup is just
