Two of the best pitchers in Vanderbilt baseball history will be sharing the same rotation once again.
Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter both made the Texas Rangers opening day rotation, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Tuesday.
Rocker and Leiter both made their MLB debuts in 2024. Rocker made three starts with a 3.86 ERA and Leiter made nine appearances and six starts with an 8.83 ERA.
"I love it for them," Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said after a 10-0 win over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. "I'm happy that they have one another. I'm happy they're pitching for the same team, and the fact that they have the opportunity to do and replicate what they did here at Vanderbilt is certainly a nice thing at the highest level. So now it just matters staying up there for a while."
While at Vanderbilt, Rocker was the 2019 College World Series Most Outstanding Player. He was named the National Freshman of the Year by D1Baseball and Baseball America and in 2021 was a unanimous First Team All-American. He finished his college career with a 28-10 record, a 2.89 ERA and 321 strikeouts. He was originally drafted 10th overall by the New York Mets in 2021 but did not sign after failing a physical. A year later, he became the third overall pick of the Rangers.

Leiter, the son of former MLB pitcher Al Leiter, was in 2021 a unanimous First Team All-American and the SEC Newcomer of the Year. He had a career 13-4 record with a 2.08 ERA and 201 strikeouts in his career, which spanned from 2020-21. He was drafted second overall by the Rangers in the 2021 MLB Draft.
