I get the feeling that the Cards will make a big splash in FA this year simply because the start of FA will be around when the season tickets will open up to all. With a great FA class and the new stadium we could have some packed games. Thoughts?

They better. They must keep doing what they've been doing. This is the year to make their move. Anything less than a playoff birth will deem this regime as "behind schedule".

I suspect that they do plan on trying to do something splashier than usual. Pulling it off though, is something else entirely.

I get this sinking feeling that they'll try to build this team through mid tier free agents the Patriots....or should I say the McGinnis way. Always trying to build the underbelly of the team.

God i hope I'm wrong!

I have no problem with the process that Denny & Rod have done over the past two seasons. Bring in quality players (not super stars) that can start and add depth to the team. Denny believes strongly in the draft but will supplement it through free agency. In his last press conference at the end of the season he stated that there is just so "many pieces in the pie" and he would like to get 5 or 6 quality players than throw all the money on one or two.

No, not at all. But to me at least, signing a couple of guys for depth would really make me happy.

Guys like:

Bannan
Schobel
Fakhir Brown
Jeff Mitchell
would seriously make me happy. Maybe I'm not the ordinary fan, but seeing increased depth at DT, TE, CB and C, I'd be stoked. And for somewhat cheap.

I still have Tony McCoy nightmares to this day. Great Tobin aquisition that one.

I wouldn't mind an overpriced name, but I wouldn't want them past their prime.

Wild speculation on my part, but - based on the pre-emptive moves Dennis made to lock up new assistants early this year - I think he and Rod may do the same thing in free agency. i.e. make their moves early before other teams get up to speed. (Assuming their moves were surefooted, it would be a welcome change from the team's previous MO).

It seems every year we talk about making a big splash. I will believe it when I see it. The only big splash I am counting on is the new stadium. I will be happy to keep the good players we have, draft wisely, and sign a few good FA's who actually work out. We do not need to do anything cute as in trading up or down. That always seems to fail. When is the last time we traded up (probably never) or down and it worked to our advantage? Address the OL and the RB problems, get people well, and sign Warner and a real backup and we can compete.

Free Agency update

On Jim Rome show:

He interviewed LeCharles Bentley. Guy basically said he wants out of New Orleans, in not so many words. Said he would be very upset if he gets franchised, but there is nothing he can do about it.

It looks like the derby will begin. Unless they tag him out of spite.

I think we've rebuilt the underbelly of this team. We are going into the 3rd year and it's time to make a move to improve the starting line up with some experience. We have been the youngest team in the NFL (or damn near it) for what seems to be forever.
It's time to make our move. If Green and Graves believe they need 1 more year to become a playoff team they will be making a big mistake.
At least 1 and better yet 2 O-linemen need to be brought in here. Sign Warner and a back up QB and everything else will be icing. But if we sit back and think Navarre will step up if called upon and that our o-line will come together as is, it may be the last mistake the "G" men make.
