taking my cardinals "scarf" to Vegas with me tomorrow.

hopefully that means Shane arrests me somewhere on the strip for some sort of completely inappropriate celebration involving said scarf after we sign PM.

I was going to post this as a new thread, but thought it would be better in here. Been thinking about this tonight, and although I'm sure no one wants to think about it, was curious what the opinion on it would be...

Hypothetically, let's say the impossible happens and Manning announces tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon he will sign with the Titans, and they quickly get the contract hammered out and release Matt Hasselbeck by tomorrow night. Now, I'm sure this would never happen, but hypothetically if it did, would you like to see the Cards quickly try to work out a very short-term deal with Hasselbeck and cut Kolb - going into the season with Hasselbeck and trying to develop Skelton and/or looking at another QB of the future after this season or give Kolb his bonus and give the two young QBs (Kolb/Skelton) another year to develop?

Probably a 0% chance it works out like this and would sure not be much of a consolation prize, but was curious what the opinions on this scenario would be.

Not gonna get an argument out of me my friend. I just don't think Peyton cares. We will know in next 2 days for certain. Hopefully tomorrow cus this ish is getting old.

Old?

Gawd! its been all of a week and PM has to decide on the next 3, 4 years of his professional life and perhaps beyond.

Has it been said anywhere by the Cards FO that they need to have a decision by Kolb's bonus date. As CC has pointed out, cutting Kolb is only a 2m cap savings, and with Mannings neck issues, maybe they've planned all along to keep Kolb even if they sign Manning. If KW still feels Kolb can be a good QB in the league, why give up on him because you have Manning for 3 years, and then maybe in the same that you have always been. I know alot of you like Skeleton, and so do I but we have no idea what is happening behind closed doors, whether the Cards feel like he can be a good starter or has peaked.

With the cap increase next year, maybe they feel like they can restructure a few deals and keep all 3. No idea about any of this, but I don't think you tell Manning "no" Sunday if he decides he wants to play for you.

I feel so bad for him. Certainly getting old to me as the critical part of free agency passes.

There is nothing preventing the Cards from approaching others on their targeted list, and yesterdays invites shows that they are.

Actually with the ability to defer $6M on his signing bonus into 2013, its an $8M saving against the CAP this year if cut. Nothing, however, prevents the Cards from renegotiating his deal and creating some additional space, although unlikely. I believe that the Cards were / are committed to Kolb as a minimum two year experiment unless PM signs with AZ.

Yeah, I realize that as well. But you can easily structure PM's contract to reduce the first year cap charge by that 6 mil and push it into next year when the cap is going to go up significantly. Like 4 year contract, 20 mil signing bonus with 5 mil yearly salaries, and 5 mil roster bonus next year and year 4. Thats 4 years, 50 mil. Cap hits of 10, 15, 10, 15 if he stays healthy all 4 years. Numbers may be a bit different, but the premise is the same.

Understood, but I believe that it will be more like $60M for three years.

and you could be right, but still the structure can take on many forms, especially with the huge cap increase next year.

Bud will say..

hey cards, I got a poem..

Cardinals are red
Titans are blue
I have ten fingers
And the middle ones are for you
I don't see what the big deal is about Bud Adams. He is a good owner and has been for years.
