I like Tracy McGrady as much as the next guy, but I am not sure I would be happy if they sent JJ, Shawn Marion, and the lottery pick for him. I don't even care if he signed an extension.

But think about how much PT that would open up for Casey Jacobsen! ;)

Seriously, the Magic aren't moving McGrady until he's a distressed property, and by that time it will be more important to woo McGrady that to offer up goodies for Orlando. Just think of McGrady as the next Penny Hardaway.

I think I would do that, but the Suns would only have 2 good players left. They could use a guy like McGrady who can create his own shot.

PS: I haven't needed to post for a long time since Joe Mama always echoes my opinion.

I think I would do Marion, Jacobsen and our pick for TMac.

But not Joe Johnson as well.

I like the idea of running JJ at PG and TMac at the 2 or Kobe at the 2 and TMac at the 3.
The only concern I have is wether Amare will get enough scoring opportunities.

or if someone offers to take grant hill's contract with tmac, they may have a shot as well

If you take Hill's contract too you wouldn't have to give very much.

I can't believe the Suns or any team other than Knicks, Blazers or Mavs would take Hill's contract.

We just got one albatross off of our necks why would we go out and take another?

The same issue came up in the discussion about getting Paul Pierce if the Suns could take Raef LaFrentz as well. This pattern of making teams take bad contracts to get who they want is not new, but has been very common this year. Getting rid of Marbury to get out of the Hardaway contract for example. :D

I don't want Pierce.

He has been getting worse for 3 consecutive seasons now. He is also older than Marion.

Think of the team Charlotte could put together if they had $200 million in loose change.

Take Hill if they get McGrady.

Take Raef if they get Pierce......

There's gotta be lots more situations like this around the league where teams would send really good young talent just to get rid of some dead weight. Not to mention draft picks. Whoever has the #1 overall would probably give it up if it meant unloading all their cap hogs.

The thing is Charlotte can pay off the dead weight and let them go with no cap penalty, so all they would need is a one time boat load of money to pay off the Pennys and keep all the good players.

If they had $200 million to do this they could be in the finals next year.

I would guess at least two thirds of the teams would give up a top player to get rid of a bad contract.
