The Arizona GM's job appears to be wide-open, with Diamondbacks CEO Jeff Moorad, a former agent, saying that highly regarded scouting director Mike Rizzo will not be a candidate. Interim GM Bob Gebhard will get an interview. As an agent, Moorad had many dealings with the Phillies. It would not be surprising to see him interview Ruben Amaro Jr., the Phils' assistant GM. It's likely that the Phils will investigate trading Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu, both of whom have no-trade clauses. Burrell might waive his to play for Moorad's D'backs. Moorad was his agent...

What sense does this last bit make? Arizona's plan was to spend the entire off-season finding ways to make regular PT for Quentin, but they'd trade for Burrell and his albatross of a contract? Doubtful.

I think that's just another example of a reporter not doing proper research. The Dbacks have no need for corner infielders/outfielders.

If Rizzo is not made the GM I will be severly put out. I cannot believe they are saying that he isn't even a candidate... where is the logic in that? Rizzo has been one of the best at his position during the last few years.

At this point I'd be satisfied if the GM is not an internal hire. Joe Garagiola Jr. probably has not been alone at the wheel these last few years.
