Here is his bio from the Dolphin' s web site:

Todd Bowles is entering his third season in his current post, having been named to the position on January 23, 2008. Prior to joining the Dolphins he had spent the previous three years as the secondary coach with the Dallas Cowboys.

During his second season with the Dolphins, Bowles was instrumental in the development of rookie cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Sean Smith. Smith was one of only two Miami defenders to start all 16 regular season games in 2009 while Davis led the team with four interceptions. Bowles’ secondary was also represented at the 2010 Pro Bowl as safety Yeremiah Bell concluded a stellar season by being named to the AFC squad.

In Bowles’ three years in Dallas, three Cowboys defensive backs were chosen to a combined five Pro Bowls, including three by safety Roy Williams. In 2007, three-fourths of Dallas’ backfield was selected to the NFC All-Star squad, as cornerback Terence Newman and safety Ken Hamlin joined Williams in Honolulu. Over those three seasons (2005-07), the Cowboys as a team came up with 52 interceptions, tied for the third-highest total in the NFC. Before going to the Cowboys, Bowles had a four-year stint (2001-04) on the staff of the Cleveland Browns, including the first three years as the defensive nickel package coach and the final season as secondary coach. In that 2004 season, the Browns ranked fifth in the league in pass defense, as they allowed an average of just 181.3 passing yards per game. In Bowles’ first year with Cleveland, the Browns led the league and set a franchise record with 33 interceptions, 28 of which were accounted for by defensive backs, including 10 by rookie Anthony Henry. Bowles’ first NFL coaching position came as defensive backs coach with the New York Jets in 2000, when he helped the unit to a No. 6 NFL ranking in pass defense, permitting an average of only 183.3 yards passing per outing.

Bowles, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., was a four-year letterman as a defensive back at Temple University (1982-85). He went on to play eight seasons in the NFL, including stints with Washington (1986-90, 1992-93) and San Francisco (1991). In his career, he appeared in 117 regular season games and accounted for 15 interceptions. He was a member of the Redskins team that captured the Super Bowl XXII championship following the 1987 season. Upon conclusion of his playing career, Bowles worked in the player personnel department of the Green Bay Packers from 1995-96. He was defensive coordinator/secondary coach at Morehouse College in 1997 and defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at Grambling State from 1998-99. He and Taneka reside in Parkland, FL. Bowles has a daughter, Sydni, and sons, Todd Jr., Troy and Tyson.

Dont know much about the guys results as a coach but I do know two things about him.

1. If Parcells were to run another team, Bowles would be his Head Coach.

2. Parcells is in love with the guy and touting him hard around the league.

Part of me sort of likes this idea. It could be nice to see Wiz go outside his comfort zone here with his next DC hire. Sort of like what the Bears did with their coaching staff last year and what the Rams have done this year with some of their coaching hires.

Well, reading his bio on the Dophins site the guy sounds pretty impressive. Everywhere he has been the teams secondary has done well. Been coaching in the NFL for the last ten years. It looks like the shortlist so far is Keith Butler, Kevin Greene and Bowles. It would be great if we could hire all of them to coach the defense. Then at least we would know we have good coaches teaching our linebackers and defensive backs.

How do we know that Greene is on any list? Somers said he hadn't heard of the Cardinals targeting anyone from the GB staff. From everything I have read it looks like it is Butler, Lebeau (however unlikely), Horton and Bowles...and Austin (probably the last choice).

Parcells does a great job training his assistants. Todd Haley worked out very well for us, so this hire wouldn't upset me. I'd still prefer Butler though.

Its not that far out of his zone; from Sando:

Bowles and Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt were assistant coaches together with the New York Jets in 2000. Bowles and Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line Russ Grimm played together on the Washington Redskins during the 1980s. That history could come into play.

I remember watching Bowles play, and heard about his coaching. He is a lunch pail guy that is consistant. I don't know enough about him. but the Dolphins defense was not the major problem over these last few years.

I'm trying to give whiz a break but everything touched went to crap last year. Not just a bad year but put us years behind the curve in the worse division in the NFL.

I want a fundementally sound base defense 3-4 or 4-3 doesn't matter to me, but We have not found 3-4 OLBs in 4 years under whiz, both Chike and Berry were left over from Denny's efforts. Haggins has been decent but not great. Porter is a 33+ year old bust at his price, He needs to take a pay cut and a reduced role to stay Cardinal.

DRC can be great but He needs constant direction and motivation to step up, like Haley did with Fitz. I don't know, truth is I would love to have Parcells evaluating and stamping anything Whisenhunt does. But We have Graves.

Marty Schottenheimer is my first choice even as a special advisor but Whiz marches to the tune of his own drums, for beter or worse. I still don't think Whiz's coaching staff can find the same positions elsewhere? Mike and Chris Miller? Grimm is a good coach in a bad circumstance and Spencer is a quality ST coach.

But no, other teams will not go out of their way to hire Whiz's staff at this point.

I like the idea. But teaching a position is not the same as calling the plays. Many aspects are completely different and not only related to the secondary only.

Billy Davis is also an excellent linebacker coach.

It's not even given that the secondary will play well. for example, our linebackers did not play that well with BD as DC and our TE's do not play so well with KW as HC.

Well, everyone is an improvement over Billy Davis. Pandergast was soo much better, everyone is better, so it can't go completely wrong compared to this season.

OT/ I know what you mean about DRC, I expected a lot from him this year but I only ended up giving him a bad nickname. Doesn't Really Care.
Sure, he gets upset after he gets burned, but he played a lot of the football you always complain about my smellyness. Big risk and most of the times no reward style play has hurt his progress.
I truely think you are on to something about a good coach constantly being in DRC's grill, motivating him and keeping him focused more on team play.

I wish we could bring in this Bowles guy and one of the Steeler D coaches. We need to focus on stopping the run and pass this year, that hurts.

Well, on first glance, I love what he'll do with our DBs. DRC especially needs a strong presence to force him to work hard at his job. Aside from that, we don't know much about him other than that Parcells loves him. That usually works out pretty well for a coach, so I wouldn't be disappointed if we eventually hire him.

At least Todd Bowles hasn't been out of football for a while.

I like the parallels with Haley --- especially the Parcells stamp of approval.

I also like the idea of adding somebody from outside the immediate circle --- its how new ideas are brought to a staff

a parcells endorsement would certainly make me feel pretty good if we missed out on the steelers guys and ended up with Bowles.

I agree

DRC has all the cover skills, ball skills, speed, range and recover skills to remain elite. I like his smile and ability to wash off plays and get back in there the next down.

He is one that is battling with potential VS reality. He needs a coach that understands that each player needs handle different, personailty wise DRC is a weird duck on the field. I don't know him off the field of course.

He is bored, He gets burnt risking toward helping others without dedicating his play to shutting down his WR no matter what. that is coaching.

Revis is an example of some one that understands the value of eliminating the top wR and making it 10 on 10 game.

Yamon, getting him to tackle a little bit wouldn't hurt either. Other players his size do just fine stopping RBs by going low or simply wrapping up and waiting for help. I've seen him avoid the contact with generic strip attempts that really but him on my yellow belly list.
He can be one of the best if he can learn and listen to what is best from good coaching.

I hope whoever our new DC is impresses US.

If I see the CP original greatest hits with the ginormus cushions given to the WR's I think I'll just brick my tv.
