We don't know that. If our defense sucks this year and doesn't show any major signs of improvement by the end of the season and BA keeps Bowles after that than it might be a similar situation. Until that happens I think it is way too early to make this statement.

I stop and wonder why everyone is jumping off cliffs while I am not and wonder, am i doing something wrong or is everyone else?

We almost hired bowles a few years ago under whiz, its not like BA is the only guy who likes him.

He's been a part of average defensive teams & failed miserably in 2 stints as DC.

Not sure the comparison is fair yet.

BUT, thank you for spelling his name right and not the juvenile way some others do :)

I am taking a "wait and see" attitude right now on the defense. I don't think they are great by any means but I think they can gel a bit more as the season goes on.

I think the offense will have to carry the team for sure.

In the NFL, prior to this year he was a DC for the last 8 games of the 2012 season. Now sure how that math works and how you can judge a man when he was forced to take over for a DC who was an offensive coach on a team that game up on him.

As coach:

Green Bay Packers (1995–1996)
(Player personnel staff)
Morehouse College (1997)
(Defensive coordinator/secondary coach)
Grambling State (1998–1999)
(Defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach)
New York Jets (2000)
(Defensive backs coach)
Cleveland Browns (2001–2003)
(Defensive nickel package coach)
Cleveland Browns (2004)
(Secondary coach)
Dallas Cowboys (2005–2007)
(Secondary coach)
Miami Dolphins (2008–2011)
(Assistant head coach/secondary coach)
Miami Dolphins (2011)
(Interim head coach/secondary coach)
Philadelphia Eagles (2012)
(Defensive backs coach)
Philadelphia Eagles (2012)
(Defensive Coordinator)
Arizona Cardinals (2013–present)
(Defensive Coordinator)

The history of the guy he took over for.

As coach:

Texas A&M University–Kingsville (1982–1985)
(Defensive line/Linebackers coach)
Kingsville High School (1986–1989)
(Linebackers coach/Defensive coordinator)
Texas A&M University–Kingsville (1990–1994)
(Offensive line coach)
Philadelphia Eagles (1995–1996)
(Offensive assistant)
Philadelphia Eagles (1997)
(Tight ends coach)
Philadelphia Eagles (1998–2010)
(Offensive line coach)
Philadelphia Eagles (2011–2012)
(Defensive Coordinator)
Baltimore Ravens (2013–present)
(Run Game Coordinator/ Offensive line coach)

I know his history & how well those defenses performed I can read too. :D

Again his track record of the teams he been a part of hasn't been that impressive.

Uhm, no. Not even remotely the history previously or the exposure here to even float a thought like that.

When Bowles pushes for a crappy DE over a franchise future All Pro QB, has had a couple of seasons of crap, and everyone on the planet wants him fired and instead he gets made an assistant head coach THEN you can make this comparison.

Everybody beats on this guy, but it took most of the first season before the players figured out Horton's defense. Maybe cut him a little slack, for at least 8 games.

Interim DC on someone elses defense doesnt count.

Im just not subscribing to the chicken little theory. I expect 7 wins this year and more improvement next year.

If we were in a different division I would expect 9 wins.

Glad to see after 1 game everyone is ready to make such educated comparisons.

For all the Ray Horton supporters. The Cardinals gave up 367 yards of offense in their second meeting with the Rams in 2012...they gave up 366 yards on Sunday.

Wasn't Grimm's sin talking Whiz into Brown and not Adrian Peterson?

Yes. So I made it a crappy DE over a HOF QB instead. Doubt lightning strikes twice the same way.

And that wasn't Grimm's only sin, just his first.

How about drafting Adrian Clayborn instead of Patrick Peterson?

this is true, but Horton a) had no off-season and an abbreviated 4 week training camp-preseason where Bowles had no such restrictions and b) Our defense the year before Horton was atrocious whereas our defense the year before Bowles was very good last year.

Give Horton a break, it's his first season on the job ;).

The difference, as cheese states, is that Bowles took over a very good defense last year and they look like all the other Todd Bowles coached defenses in his career.

By "all the other" defenses he coached you mean the 8 games he was a DC(when he took over for the DC that was fired)? That is a huge measuring stick.

I say give the guy some time, he may end up better than Horton or he may end up in the Davis/Marmie category...judging him by 1 game is jumping the gun a little...don't you think?
