Tom Izzo had a line for all time Monday on the Pat McAfee show.

The conversation turned to the Michigan State vs. Michigan rivalry, and what transpired a week ago, when Wolverines players and Spartans players got in a short shoving dispute at midcourt.

Izzo said John Beilein, the former Michigan coach, and he would talk about the rivalry and Izzo told him, "You gotta hate your rivals. You can respect 'em. You can't like 'em."

Then he dropped a one-liner that lit up the room in laughter.

"Do you like your wife's ex-boyfriend? I mean it's illegal to do that."

This came right after Izzo laughed and clapped when one of the producers, a Michigan State fan, said Michigan and its fans always say it's never their fault when the rivalry turns ugly.

"He knows it well," Izzo said smiling, referencing the producer's declaration, before going into his one-liner.

MSU went 2-0 against Michigan in the regular season to overtake it for the Big Ten regular season championship. Michigan then won the Big Ten tournament over the weekend.

The rivals are both in the South region in March Madness — MSU is a 2-seed, Michigan is a 5-seed — and could meet in the Elite Eight in Atlanta with a Final Four trip to San Antonio up for grabs.

By the way, Beilein, an analyst this season for the Big Ten Network, recently told our Tony Garcia on the Detroit Free Press' Hail Yes! podcast that the Michigan-Michigan State basketball rivalry is better than Duke-North Carolina.
