He is now available and would provide just the discipline and structure the Suns need. Demote Igor to assistant coach, which is where he belongs.

Thoughts?

Thibs is looking like a coach that needs vets. Developing players was never his strong suit

I'm thinking keep Igor on as an assistant to develop the players and bring in Thibodeau to handle in-game strategy, instill the necessary culture of discipline and assume the leadership mantle, all weaknesses of Igor.

There are definitely things to like, but the knock on him is that he wears players down. Not a good fit with Booker given his alarming tendency to get hurt the past two seasons.

It seems like he'd be good for Ayton in theory, but he pretty clearly was bad for Towns. And I've heard a lot of talk that the league has made his signature defense archaic.

He should be hired asap...considering we have the worst coach in the league. Thibs was 19 -21 I'd be in heaven if that was our record

Well, Towns did develop into an all-star, and the Wolves' defense has been 1,000 times better than the Suns' defense has been under Igor.

Frankly, I get the feeling more and more that Igor isn't particularly comfortable being an NBA head coach. While technically a demotion, I think moving Igor back into an assistant role might be a merciful blessing for Igor as well as being best for the Suns.

I don't think Thibs is without merit...I'd just like to set the bar higher.

Sign me up now. I seriously doubt we get a better coach.

This is a difficult one. I wouldn't demote Igor within a courtside position unless he feels relieved about it and accepts it gladly. If not, I can stretch it as I mentioned it last week -- Assistant to the President or be gone. Igor would have to have no further ambitions to ever be a Head Coach if he steps down but hangs around.

As far as Thibs, I, too, wonder if he would be any better than Igor at handling a very young team. And I don't like the part about him wearing our his players. Of course, we all like his reputation for defense.

As an interim Head Coach for the rest of the season, I could support that if anyone on the Suns staff is capable of doing a meaningful review of his tenure as Head Coach in relation to the needs of this team.

Pre-Wolves, I would have been all about him. But man... I fear we have the same make-up as that team already, only younger and if Tibs couldn't get through to all the talent on Wolves, I doubt he'd do the same here.

Agreed.

Thibodeau did a quite unimpressive job in Minnesota.

Their defense was terrible under his tenure and their offense was basically giving the ball to Jimmy Butler in the 4th quarter and hope that he will settle it down.

He ruined their future with the Butler-trades and his trademark became standing on the sidelines and screaming (mostly) "Taj, Taj".

I doubt that he will get a job soon and I do hope that it will not be in Phoenix.

Thibs seemingly was more the product of Rose and Butler, along with a solid forward in Boozer iirc, and a young energetic Noah.

Butler was coming to his own, Rose was an MVP and they had players who wanted to play defense.

Now come to the Wolves, KAT and Wiggins...not willing to play hard on defense. They also had no MVP on their team. Butler can only do so much on his own.

We are younger and softer than the Wolves probably and Thibs would only wear them down this season just as fast.

That's a distinct possibility for sure. However, sometimes coaches simply don't mesh well with a roster. If someone can point out an established coach (not a reach type person) that we could get to come here I am all ears.

I would rather take a shot on someone with a bunch of experience than taking a no name to save money or to reach for. That's just me.

How many ex Suns coaches is Saver gonna pay? No to Thibs. Give Koko the tools he needs to compete instead of replacing HCs every year or two.

True. Its not really because of the coaching, that this team isn't a playoff team. Moreso because it doesn't have any stars. Booker is a maybe, and has been out much of this year. The rest of the guys aren't there yet.

Thibs is not a good coach no interest in him at all , as someone stated earlier he'd run Booker into the ground

Well, Igor has already run Booker into the ground, so that's a wash...

So no point to bring in a coach that would do the same thing then, switching coaches for no reason mid way through the season can actually hurt more than anything, if it was for a great coach then maybe , certainly not for thibs

At this point, I am merely looking for competence and capacity...
