FAIRPORT, N.Y. – A run of five straight goals between the end of the first period and the early portions of the third lifted the Johnstown Tomahawks to an emphatic 6-2 victory over the Rochester Jr. Americans Saturday at Rochester Ice Arena.

Johnstown (30-22-5, 65 points) completed a weekend sweep and improved its record this season against Rochester (39-11-8, 84 points) to 4-2-0.

The Johnstown run started at 19:23 of the first when Adam Ondris’ unassisted goal broke a 1-all tie. The Tomahawks needed 85 seconds in the second to expand that lead when Nick White potted his 14th of the season with helpers from Andrew Cowgill and Kirby Perler. Johnstown made it 4-1 at 11:33 of the middle frame as Adam Csabi struck with assists credited to Caden Olenczak and Nick Avakyan. Charle Zetterkvist followed 65 seconds later with Markas Samenas assisting.

Zetterkvist assisted on Cullen Emery’s goal at 4:20 of the third, making it 6-1. Rochester’s Ryan Shaw set the final with an unassisted tally at 15:21. Johnstown’s Ryan Flaherty (15:02) and Rochester’s Adam Gionta (15:47) scored during the first period, creating the 1-all deadlock that Johnstown eventually broke.

The teams combined for 102 penalty minutes on 35 infractions with the Jr. Americans stacking 18 penalties and 60 minutes on their ledger.

Avakyan stopped 39 shots.

Johnstown hosts Maryland next weekend to conclude the regular season.
