Has there been a more clutch performer at this point in all of MLB? The guy is 3rd on the team in RBI and he is a part time player. What a pickup!!

I was in the process of a long post in the series thread regarding the addition of Tony Clark, however, it somehow got deleted before I submitted it....

I was excited when it was initially rumored that the Dbacks had expressed an interest in him and in fact here is quote from this thread:

KLL said:
I grew-up in Detroit as a Tiger fan (I gradually switched my allegiances to all the AZ sports teams), so I remember a lot about Tony Clark (who was their starting 1B from '96-'01 (became their starting 1B after the Tigers dealt Cecil Fielder to the Yankees).....

He was originally drafted (as a SS) as the 2nd over-all pick in the '90 draft (Chipper Jones was selected just ahead of him)... Although, he decided to play basketball for U of A for a couple years..which initially stalled his development.... What affected him at times was that he endured constant back problems, but has since "rebounded" from them, and would be ideal as a back-up and mentor for Tracy... People say that leadership is some times overrated, but Clark is briliant at studying the game (especially charting each of his ABs and watching game tapes of pitchers), which would definitely help serve the younger players.... Plus...the dimension of him being a switch-hitter really can be a boon for the Dbacks as well.... Would be a steal if they acquire him for a bargain minimum contract...

Lord.. do I hate "patting myself on the back" and the like, but he's proven me right thus far.....

Although, I must admit that I did question Melvin's move to pinch hit Tracy in favor of Clark in the 9th since Clark is less consistant from the right-side, but fortunately Clark proved Melvin right....

With all due respect to Shawn Green, I was wishing that he would work the pitcher for a walk in the final inning of the overtime loss Monday night, because waiting on deck was . . . Tony Clark.

I know he can't do it every time (he was 2-for-2) after having replaced Tracy, but it was disappointing to see Tony left in the on-deck circle as we lost to the Giants.

Tony was a great pickup, and what makes it even better is he's a former Wildcat. Bear Down Tony!!!

And now it's Tuesday and, after going 0-3, Tony Clark drives in the go-ahead run in the 8th.

Here's hoping the bullpen can hold his game-winning hit tonight better than his bases-clearing-double to drive in 3 and tie the score last night.
