To start with, I thought I'd put this in and see what everyone comes up with. This can be a mental hospital that is in service or not in service. Figure this will probably have mostly horror movies in it, but there are some good dramas also (Cuckoo's Nest).

I'd like to cast a vote for 12 Monkeys. Pitt was ridiculously good in that flick.

I really liked that movie, and "Cuckoo's Nest" is one of my favorite 70's movies.

I was pretty impressed with The Butterfly Effect, so that will be my contribution.

Sorry, I was just putting down the thread for your top 3--not a consensus top 3 for the board... I'll put mine down soon.

Krang says Session 9 is a good one. I hear the mental hospital they used for it is actually considered haunted and added to the mood of the movie. I haven't seen it yet. Trying to download it though.

Session 9 is very creepy, and not bad.

I am posting this without having read any of the other post to keep from being influenced. But here are the first 3 that come to mind for me.

One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest

The Dream Team - Michael Keaton, Chris Lloyd, Peter Boyle and Flounder as escaped mental patients in NY - an 80's classic.

Crazy People - really only for the line: "The Freak" - this movie won't just scare you, it will f*ck you up for life!" That was and would be the greatest tag-line for a horror movie ever!

12 Monkeys

Cukoo's Nest

That's my top three with the one line from Crazy People.
