That isn't a list to get real excited about. Kubiac is the best of the bunch and he has HC failure written on his forehead.

There probably is a very good coach in that list somewhere trouble is predicting who it would be.

We need Bill Parcells basically but he has a job. How bout we chip in a clone the guy?

I'm not sold on assistants necessarily making good NFL coaches.

I'm also not sold on making a change at the end of the season. But if I were, I'd want to bring in someone who understands the big picture, knows when (and when not) to delegate authority and who'd bring in a whole winning program.

Here is the breakdown of past Cardinal coaches and where they came from:

McGinnis-assistant coach Cardinals
Tobin-assistant coach Colts
Ryan-assistant coach Oilers
Bugel-assistant coach Redskins
Kuhlman-assistant coach Cardinals
Stallings-assistant coach Cowboys
Hanifan-assistant coach Cardinals
Wilson-assistant coach Cardinals
Wilkinson-past h.c. Oklahoma
Coryell-h.c. San Diego State
Holloway-assistant coach Cardinals

That's over 30 years of Cardinal head coaches and the vast majority have come from the assistant coach ranks to the Cardinals. In all probablility the trend will continue, unless Arizona hires a Jim Fassel, Tom Coughlin, or a college coach.

Ya but how many Head Coachs were head coachs before??? I would think not many HC (excluding Gruden) were HC from other teams.

Current coaches who were previous head coaches were:
Parcells (Jets/Cowboys), Mariucci (49ers/Lions), Shottenheimer (Redskins/Chargers), Holmgren (Packers/Seahawks), Vermeil (Rams/Chiefs), Gruden (Raiders/Bucs), Dungy (Bucs/Colts), Davis (Miami U/Browns), Spurrier (Florida/Redskins), and Reeves (Giants/Falcons).

Re-cycled coaches who were once head coaches then became assistants and then head coaches again:
Capers (Panthers/Jags/Texans), Wannstedt (Bears/Dolphins), Shanahan (Raiders/49ers/Broncos) and Belichick (Browns/Jets/Patriots).

So it is not a given that most always come as assistants to a new team.

I guess my question is more how often does a coach move from one team to another with out getting fired.

Romeo Crennel would be an excellent hire as well.

He is a great defensive mind, just ask anyone who plays the Patriots (of course it's him AND Belichick).

I keep hearing Jim Fassel's name being mentioned. Wasn't he the Cards OC? this would prove that assistants can become great HC's. But more than that is his job in NY in question? I haven't heard that he is in jepordy of being let go.

Everyone starts as an assistant to someone. What do you think Parcells did before he got the HC job with the Giants? Dungy was some unknown college coach who nobody had heard about untill he landed in Tampa. Division leading Carolina has a HC that was previously an assistant. Gruden used to be Holmgren's errand-boy. If you look at that list of our coaches, how many of those assistants were promoted from within? 5 out of 11 were already with the team.

Jeff, what's it going to take to 'sell' you on making a change at the end of the season. MAC CAN'T COACH!!!

He's gotten far too many seasons to not make anything near real progress in gameplanning, calling a game, managing the game, making halftime adjustments, and playing like a scared kitten instead of being aggressive.

So, pray tell, what do we gain by keeping an underachieving, blundering head coach?

*Sigh* Forgive me if I don't welcome back your same old insulting, childish one-line posts. It has been old, it got older, and it's just getting worse and worse. Please, grow up a little and lay off, eh? Or at least, if you DO need to insult, do it within the context of, or in response to, a real post. Try to at least comment on the actual thread. Please.
