The revamped Colorado Buffaloes will take on Folsom Field this Saturday for their annual Black & Gold spring football game. Head coach Deion Sanders's third spring game is expected to attract roughly 9,000 fans.

Colorado's roster has seen the most offseason turnover since Sanders took over, with several notable departures headlined by Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Fouteen other starters are also looking to turn pro.

With so many starting roles unclaimed, Saturday's spring game might be the most impactful scrimmage since the new regime. Quarterback, running back, wide receiver, linebacker and safety are only five of perhaps seven positions that enter the spring game with starting spots up for grabs.

We will have you covered throughout the week, with coverage leading up to Saturday's game. Let's start with five players that all Colorado fans should keep their eyes on this weekend.

With so many questions, five players is not nearly enough, so we tried to select the most impactful five. We avoided linemen as they typically are hard to grade in the spring game format.

Lewis is a five-star recruit and the third-ranked pocket passer in the 2025 class. Deion Sanders has indicated that Lewis is getting every chance to earn the starting quarterback job. While competing against Kaidon Salter, he has wowed with a few throws this spring, but many think the experienced Salter should win the battle. Saturday will be the public's first opportunity to see the talented freshman and a peek into the future of the post-Shedeur Sanders era.

Salter brings four seasons of experience to Boulder as he attempts to step into the role left by Shedeur Sanders. The Liberty transfer was No. 11 quarterback in the transfer portal after playing four seasons with the Flames. He totaled 5,887 passing yards and 56 touchdowns to go along with 2,063 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. In 2023, his first as a full-time starter, he was one of the top quarterbacks in the country, finishing with 2,876 passing yards and 32 touchdowns and winning CUSA MVP honors.

He will look to regain his 2023 form at Colorado and has looked like the starter throughout spring camp, so don't be surprised if he gets the ball first come Saturday.

RB Micah Welch

I might not have put Welch on this list last week, but with last season's leading rusher, Isaiah Augustave, no longer on the roster, Welch is the top running back. As a true freshman, Welch played nine games, including starting the final two games of 2024. He finished the season with 186 yards on 43 carries while adding eight receptions for 54 yards. His performance this spring and Saturday could go a long way in keeping him at the top of the depth chart.

WR Omarion Miller

Omarion Miller could be the key to the 2025 Colorado offense. He has shown the ability to be the best wide receiver on the field. Against Kansas State, Miller racked up eight catches for 145 yards but was injured in the game and missed the rest of the year. Now, as a junior, the expectations are sky high, and many expect him to take that next step. Saturday will give fans a glimpse into what type of Miller the 2025 season might bring.

LB Martavius French

The most significant loss this offseason was arguably Nikhai Hill-Green's transfer to Alabama. He was the Buffs' top linebacker and second-leading tackler. UTSA transfer Martavius French looks to be a leading candidate to be the Buffaloes' top linebacker. French played three seasons at UTSA, starting 20 games for the Roadrunners. In 2024, he led the team with 80 total tackles and 17 tackles for a loss and was named Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference at middle linebacker. Watching how the linebackers line up during the spring game and who starts will be interesting.
