ABERDEEN — Here's a recap of Friday games in the state Class A boys basketball tournament at the Barnett Center.
Castlewood 64, Wessington Springs 45 — Top-seeded Castlewood earned a trip to the championship for the first time since 2003 by methodically pulling away.
Bryon Laue (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Jamison Keszler (17 points, five assists) powered the Warriors, who used Keszler's last-second 3-pointer to grab a 19-14 lead after one quarter. Castlewood increased its advantage to 36-26 at halftime and to 48-31 early in the third.
"Those two guys have been leading us all year," Castlewood coach Paul Raach told South Dakota Public Broadcasting. "I love those two guys to death. They're a coach's dream, both of them."
Kamden Keszler contributed nine points and Luke Baumberger and Brody Bass eight each for Castlewood.
"Our guys have been on a mission," Raasch said. "To get to this point, they weren't going to be denied."
The Spartans received 15 points from Colby Flowers and 13 points and 11 rebounds from Ryder Michalek.
Viborg-Hurley 56, Dell Rapids St. Mary 49 — Third-seeded Viborg-Hurley built an 11-point lead in the third quarter and held on by holding second-seeded St. Mary scoreless in the final 3:14.
DRSM cut the lead to 52-39 on Lincoln LeBrun's 3-pointer with 3:14 left. Viborg-Hurley made four free throws in the final 27.5 seconds to secure the win.
Nicholas Hanson recorded 20 points and eight rebounds and Owen Niedebaumer 11 points for Viborg-Hurley, which is coached by Castlewood native Shane Warwick.
Viborg-Hurley defeated Castlewood 49-44 during the regular season.
Wall 59, Lyman 55 — Wall overcame a 13-point deficit to prevail, getting 22 points from Teelan Kjerstad, 17 from Emmet Dinger and eight points and 11 rebounds from Younger Amiotte.
Dawson Vollmer's 19 points and eight rebounds led Lyman.
Freeman 52, Aberdeen Christian 44 — Freeman won the close battle behind Tate Sorensen's 17 points and seven rebounds, Tayden Kerrigan's 14 points and Luke Peters' 12 points.
Brooks Jett garnered 16 points and 16 rebounds and Luke Kaiser 12 points for the Knights.
Seventh Place (Lyman vs. Aberdeen Christian, noon); consolation championship (Wall vs. Freeman, 1:45 p.m.); third place (Wessington Springs vs. Dell Rapids St. Mary, 6 p.m.); and championship (Castlewood vs. Viborg-Hurley, 7:45 p.m.).
