Hey, did anyone else get a copy of U.S.A. Today?? I was looking forward to reading about the Cards win, but when I found the write-up/game-summary, it was COMPLETELY about the Lions. How they lost, quotes from Detroit players, etc. ALL that was mentioned re: Arizona was the score and that we hadn't won in a month. I kid you not. Check it out. Now, if I was reading a Detroit paper I would understand but this is U.S.A. today, a national newspaper. The writer is Greg Boeck. I am planning to send a letter to him and the U.S.A. editor to voice my displeasure about this. Anyone care to join me?? Strength in numbers, ya know. GO CARDS!

It doesn't surprise me in the least. It's always about how the opponent lost instead of how we won. Punks.

Who cares!!! We totally thrashed their high power offense. We won!!! I would rather our team go unoticed. Plus, until you win on a consistant basis we will be ignored. People who have watched all the Cards games this season know we have a solid team.

Yes, but if they only watched the Tampa game last week they'd think we have the same old crummy team.

It's amazing how vastly different this team plays from one week to the next.

Exactly. If Green falls on the ball and Rackers hits the fg against the Redskins, we are sitting at 6-3 and everybody would be saying what a great team we are.

It doesn't matter to me. I was much more upset by the ****** at the Republic, whose caption was something like "Cards manage to hold on" Are you friggin kidding me"? The game was essentially a stomping. Detroit manages a score at then end when the game was completely out of reach. "managing to hold on" is Cards at Baltimore or Washington this year, where the clear impression of any knowledgeable football observer is: if their were two more minutes on the clock, the winner almost certainly would not have been.

It makes me a lot madder with the nitwits here in town, that cant ever bring themselves to caption anything that would make the team look good no matter how inaccurate their paper ends up being. Screw them. Whatever.

I agree. The media plays a huge role in how the team is viewed and supported. Just the choice of the words "hold on" infer that this one was close which it absolutely wasn't.

The headline on ESPN site was "Lions Lose".

Every other game is "Ravens fall to Bengals" or "Favre and Pack destroy Vikings".

uh, isn't Raven fall to Bengals the same as Lions lose? Because THAT'S the story - the fact that the favored team lost? Or that the Pack kept rolling?

If anything, the Lions are proof positive that if you actually start winning, you'll get noticed. They've been historically almost as bad as us, but everyone's on their jock so far this season because they're winning. We're 4-5 - which is basically a non-story. When we were 3-2, people we're talking about us - when we get back to a winning record, people will be talking about us. It's just the way it goes.

You have to remember that the media has been punked by the Cards hundreds of times just like the rest of us. Its going to take a lot more than one nice win over the Lions to change their attitude.

If we go into Seattle with the division on the line all we'll hear about is the Seahawks. If we were to win that all you'd hear about is Phoenix Rising.

1) The Cardinals were a one point favorite last Sunday. So it shouldn't have been a surprise that the Lions lost.
2) If the Cardinals pull off the upset on 12/9, the headlines will not be about Phoenix Rising, they'll be about the Seahawks falling, though I would expect more hopeful headlines from the locals (finally).
3) The USA Today article, if you read it, mentions the Arizona Cardinals only once, and then only to identify who the Lions lost to. Later he refers to the unnamed team only to point out that Detroit lost to a bad team. To read it, one would assume that the Lions probably handed the 31 points to Arizona in the first place. It was disappointing, to say the least.
