1968 was still a great year for him though.

Well TLR/DS did say he was 4 - 5 years away from the majors. The kid is a year out of HS, no one expected him to make a big league roster this year. The main gripe us critics had was we need to keep and develop young starting pitching not selling them off for money we probably won't use this season.

To be fair, Phil Gosselin's stats since the trade......0 games played, he's on the DL.

A.) His 4.19 era isn't against major leaguers it's against other 19 year old kids in single A

B.) We didn't trade for Phil Gosselin, we traded for cash that in my opinion is likely to go towards an ace in the off season

Let me add that I do not necessarily agree with the trade, but the point of my post was to bring people back to reality that were acting like we traded Bob Gibson when wbat,we traded was a kid that has a 50/50 shot at,even making the bigs

There isn't a team in the majors that has the young stockpile of talent on the big league squad than the Diamondbacks.

Dumping Prado, Trumbo, Montero, Parra and the like was hard, but this team is loaded with productive kids at nearly every position.

Seriously, Lamb, Enciarte, Owings, Peralta, Pollack, Tomas, and Goldschmidt in a year or two will be all in their prime at the same time, and if we can just get back, acquire, or rebuild the starting rotation, this team is as good as any.

I think think anyone claimed we gave up a future hall of famer.

What pissed everyone off is we gave up (yet another) young, highly regarded arm for nothing. The team just signed a billion something dollar TV deal, they should need to penny pinch to the extent of dumping 15 million dollars by departing with a prospect who'd probably make more than that as an international free agent.

I'm not condemning the current regime for it, but its another piece of the terrible short term thinking that crippled the franchise under Towers.

Watch him come back next year and dominate.

Maybe we should have asked for Alex Wood in return. LA practically got him for nothing.

You gotta hand it to Andrew Friedman. Even Dodger money hasn't stopped him from getting great value deals like he did in Tampa and keeping his top prospects. Coletti would've dealt them for Hamels.
