Towson women’s lacrosse didn’t just win Tuesday against Longwood, the Tigers won in a way they haven’t in 45 years.

The Tigers (5-3) defeated the Lancers, 22-2, and the 20-goal victory ties the program’s largest margin of victory. Towson also beat Goucher by 20 goals in 1980.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Roszk led the way with three goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Valerie Thompson added four goals and freshman goalkeeper Jenna Cardeno chipped in three saves. Eleven Tigers recorded at least one point in the dominant victory, with five players (Gabby Bjugan, Riley Padian, Emma Baker, Sydney Casserly and Louise Aloi) tallying the first points of their college careers.

Towson led 13-2 at halftime and scored all nine goals in the second half in what was a complete team showing. The Tigers recorded 39 shots compared with just 10 for the Lancers, as Towson handed Longwood (0-7) its biggest loss of the season.

The Tigers conclude a three-game homestand Friday against No. 10 Princeton, which should provide a stiff test. Towson is 0-2 against ranked teams this season with losses to Loyola Maryland and Stony Brook, the preseason Coastal Athletic Association favorite. Princeton is 6-1 this season with its only loss coming in its season opener against Virginia.

The Tigers, who are 1-1 in league play, hope a strong finish to their season could propel them to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021. Tuesday’s 20-goal win helps the cause.
