Ward, Bowman
lead Royse City
WYLIE —Jammel Ward and Kira Bowman won events to lead Royse City at the area track and field meet for Districts 9-10 in Class 6A.
Ward, a state qualifier last year, doubled up, winning the boys high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches and the long jump (22-8).
Bowman won the girls pole vault (13-3) and was second in the 400-meter dash (58.14).
Royse City placed third in the boys team standings with 64 points and was 12th in the girls team standings with 12 points.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the region meet.

PARIS — Athletes from Quinlan Ford and Caddo Mills advanced to region in several events with top-four finishes at the area meet for District 13-14 in 4A.
Mason Tigue of Quinlan Ford won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 40.98.
His brother Payton Wallen was second for Ford in the discus with a throw of 147-0.
Paige Milliken of Caddo Mills won the girls 100-meter dash in 12.88.
Kaelee Robertson of Caddo Mills was second in the girls 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Commerce leads
way at area meet
POTTBORO — The Commerce Tigers finished first in the boys team standings and second in the girls team standings at the area meet for Districts 11-12 in 4A.
Distance runners Chase Gossett (10:10.84), Michael B. Smith (11:00.86) and Alexis Trejo (11:05.82) finished first, second and third in the boys 3200-meter run.
Commerce also won the 4x200 relay (1:29.02) and got victories from Malik Garcia in the long jump (21-3) and triple jump (46-10) as the Tigers scored 125 points to lead the team standings.
Commerce’s Lady Tigers scored 99 points to finish second to Gunter (115) in the girls team standings.
Commerce won the 4x100 relay (49.7).
Haven Scott of Lone Oak won the girls 100 (12.39), 200 (25.46) and long jump (16-4) as the Lady Buffs finished sixth in the team standings with 45 points.
