Who will go down? This from Rotoworld:
Chad Tracy, on the DL since May 16 with soreness in his left rib cage, had a hit in five at-bats and played four innings in the field Tuesday in an extended spring training game.

Tracy will play in another spring game Wednesday and is likely to play in one minor league game before being activated Friday.

Is Tracy playing for a job here or elsewhere now? Maybe what happened in his absence will inspire something fresh out of him.

If he does well and we're still near the top of the division I hope they can include Conor in a trade for Teix. It's too bad Tracy was injured because, besides home runs, he was having a much better season than last year. And just because he isn't hitting home runs doesn't mean much since he was hitting plenty of doubles and triple. I hope he can continue to do that when he's back. Looking forward to seeing him play again.

Yeah I've been thinking about this for awhile....

Tracy + Jackson + Dustin Nippert for Teixiera and maybe a AA level scrub pitcher

Well I meant just Jackson and prospects if possible, but if Reynolds keeps it up I'd definitely be willing to let go of both for Teixera, but I doubt Reynolds keeps it up. I worded it wrong in my post. I'm just saying that if he keeps hitting well I'd rather keep him over Jackson, it's been debated on this board before.

All of that for a year and a half of Teixiera? No thanks.

Callaspo is really struggling as of late. Then today Reynolds was hitless. Knock on wood, but he may start to look human soon.

If he continues though I wouldn't mind a lineup of:
1B-CoJack
2B-Hudson
3B-Reynolds
SS-Drew
LF-Byrnes
CF-Young
RF- Tracy

Obviously that leaves Quentin as the odd man out, but he too has been struggling lately. He's swinging at anything and everything. Split time with him and Tracy in right and have Reynolds and Tracy split time at the hot corner.

It's better to have more players than needed rather than being short-handed.

If Reynolds continues to scuffle through the Boston series its going to make putting Tracy back into the lineup a much easier decision.

Quentin is a superb RF, and he is one of the future power hitters on the team -- plus his BA with runners in scoring position is excellent. He's not going anywhere. Reynolds needs to go work on his defense -- a lot -- he's got good instincts, but he's just not got the level of defensive comfort we need at third.

Yes -- so far. Eventually Reynolds will be a much better third baseman than Tracy, but I'd probably send him down -- certainly before I'd send Montero, which is who they're mentioning, so he can play every day -- or else Callaspo, which I'm fine with. I agree Montero needs to play a lot more, and BoMel has his favorites... but that'd be a shame.

Tracy is a better defender at third than Reynolds, if that is what you are asking.
My opinion is that Chad Tracy is not a better fielding 3B than Mark Reynolds.

Reynolds has made some very good plays. The error he got should have been charged (in Mark Grace's opinion) to Conor Jackson at 1B.

Reynolds has experience playing 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF and RF. He made a great play at 2B when the shift was on and he was the only fielder on the left side of the infield.

I'd be willing to bet that Mark Reynolds is, right now, a better fielding 1B than either Conor Jackson or Chad Tracy, too.

With his latest antics (being picked off 2B with the ol' hidden ball trick), Callaspo should be made gone.

And, yes, Montero should be our everyday Catcher. He's become our most dependable pinch hitter. Morale of the story -- give him a regular job and he produces. Plus he's a damn good Catcher and handler of Pitchers.

I'm surprised that you want Montero playing more because you have been a big supporter of Snyder. I agree with you, I want Montero in there and let him play the majority of the games in the next two weeks to see what he can do. You can see he has the potential to be a very good player.

You are entitled to that opinion, but I sure hope you are basing it on something more than just what Reynolds has done in 22 games. Sure he plays six positions (although he has played RF only a few times), but none of them very well. He has played a ton of DH in the minors, and there's a reason for that. Almost any scouting report on Reynolds is going to include "poor defense" somewhere in it, and based on my experience watching and following him through the minors it is going to take more than 22 mostly decent games defensively to change that in my mind.

I think Snyder is a really good back-up catcher and for the price, I preferred him to the available alternatives -- he works well with pitchers, and he works hard and on the rare times he connects with a ball, he has power.

BUT -- I've been very high on Montero for three years as a slugging excellent defensive catcher, just cautious about saying too much -- he needed to prove himself at every level, because Catchers come along a bit slower than other players -- more to learn. He should be playing maybe 4 games a week now, and the other games Snyder can catch, and let Montero rest up and study the game at leisure -- and pinch hit, of course.

But BoMel... He loves the old guys, and relatively speaking, that's Tracy and Snyder over Reynolds and Montero -- Betcha.

Reynolds is not game-savvy enough yet to be consistently better than Tracy -- give him a few months of playing here or wherever, and he will be much better.

Tracy went 3 for 4 with a homer, double and 3 rbi's tonight. I bet he is in the lineup tomorrow.

Sutton said he will be. I'd rather him come up to the Valley, rest a day, and then be in the lineup after that, ah well.
