Why? He's going to push Reynolds - who has done pretty much nothing for a month. Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see Tracy get some significant time at third unless Reynolds can snap out of his funk.

reynolds hasn't exactly been clutch of late. i like hammock, but having tracy is better than having hammock. and i think reynolds will benefit.

I say give Tracy a few spot starts and see how he does. If he's doing well, start him over Reynolds. You have to remember Reynolds went straight from AA to the MLB. If Tracy succeeds, maybe some bench time for Reynolds would be good, or maybe he'd go down to AAA for a while. I do like Reynolds better than Tracy as the long term answer at 3B, so I'd hope Tracy would do well enough so that the D'backs can trade him midseason.

One thing the D-Backs has is an abundance of is free swinging, strikeout prone batters. Its an easier pill to swallow, as long as you have a respectable batting average and are mashing a bunch out of the park. Reynolds is hitting just above .230 and has only one homer in the month of may. It would behoove Bo Mel to put someone in who can hit for average and not swing for the fence in every at bat.

I say bring Tracy back up and give him a few cracks at starting in the hot corner. It should help the team batting average and gives Reynolds an opportunity to further develop to swing. Don't mistake me, I love Reynolds, I'm just sick of seeing all of these strikeouts

I've been pulling for Reynolds ever since he came up, too.

But, from a team standpoint, he -- and now Upton -- need someone to take charge and show them how to get pitches to hit.

And we need another lefty bat in the lineup. So let's see what Tracy can do.

A week ago, batting coach Rick Schu was a hero. Now I'm wondering if he or BoMel is at fault for Reynolds, Upton and Young trying to put every ball into the seats and for all those strikeouts.

And I wonder if the real culprit is the player who supposedly replaced Gonzo as the face of the offense -- Eric Byrnes.

He's trying to put every ball into the air. And look at the results.

His first major league grand slam today was good for . . . today.

But it's setting a lousy example for our young players on an ongoing basis.

If management allows Reynolds, Upton and Young each to become another Carlos Quinton, Mike D'Antoni won't be the only Head Coach ridden out of town for not knowing how to develop young players.

Apparently, former Catcher Bob Melvin knows how to develop young pitchers, but perhaps not position players.

If something doesn't change, history could repeat itself.

Is it something in the air in Phoenix?

Chad Tracy was back from the disabled list and in the lineup Monday, and although he started at first base in place of Conor Jackson, manager Bob Melvin made it sound as if it's not going to be a regular occurrence.

"Conor's going to play," Melvin said, adding that he wanted Jackson to have a day off.
Tracy can also play third base, and it sounds as if that might be his best way to get into the lineup, at least in the near future.

Third baseman Mark Reynolds is hitting just .225 and has been in an offensive drought for much of the past five weeks. He hasn't hit higher than seventh in the lineup the past week.

Still, Melvin said Tracy could give the Diamondbacks "thunder off the bench" and called Reynolds "our third baseman," so Tracy could slide into a pinch-hitter-extraordinaire role similar to the one Tony Clark held the past few seasons.

"We'll see how it goes," Melvin said. "We'll see physically where we are from day to day. That's why I don't want to go out and say he'll get 'x' amount of at-bats. It's going to be a feel more than anything else."
