Johnson, Finley, Gonzo, etc. What's the point of keeping them? This team will not be able to compete for another 3 years at least with the the present players as well as the paycuts Colangelo and the crew envision. If we keep Johnson, Finley, etc. that pretty much means the DBacks win 70 games a year as opposed to 60 games through 2006. Who cares about 10 extra wins if the postseason is not in question? Let's retool for 2007.

Your thoughts...

From alot of what I have hear rumor wise the Dbacks are only going to keep possibly 3 high paying players beyond this season ... The Big Unit (if he wants to stay here), Gonzo, and Richie Sexson. They will be trading Bautista and Finley by the trading deadline, unless we suddenly get in the race by that time (and with this division who knows).

In the end this season (although its pissing me off right now) may prove to be
positive for the future by letting the baby backs play. I really won't worry about it till we get to that point though

Well, I said over the winter that rebuilding is rebuilding and not compatible with being competitive. It's too difficult to do both because they required different strategies. What happened to the D-Backs is generally predictable. I wanted the Babybacks to play all along. Let them have a full season and see if they can play at the major league level.

You need to break eggs to make an omelet.

They tried to rebuild (not really, let's be honest - that got shelved early in the off-season) be competitive, AND cut costs. Two out of three is hard enough, and would require a clear plan and some real savvy, but no way to do all three. Especially when you have this strange affinity for injured and/or worn-out players.

Heaven help us if they do trade RJ, because we won't get squat for him, or the others.

I agree we should go right now into full-tilt rebuild mode. JC warned fans last season it would be happening this year, but he and his crew got deluded by the temporary improvement when we had a critical mass of babybacks up here. As a group, they had great energy and fun. Taken individually, many of those young guys aren't going to pan out at that level - Overbay will, DUHHH.

We have some serious prospects in line to show up over the next 1-3 years. I'd rather watch them than warmed-over veterans.

Gonzo, Sexson & RJ should remain, while all other non-BabyBacks should be traded for prospects, not retreads! . The team should stick to one path, and rebuilding not only gives the team a chance to evaluate & build talent, it's a bit less expensive.

One more thing: it's time for Kniffin to be shown the door! Our young pitchers look like they forgot how to pitch, along with having no clue about situational awareness, and that falls squarely on the pitching coach! Like most of us have said, it's one thing for a couple of pitchers to be in a funk, but the majority of our staff is mired in one! Something needs to be changed, and a new pitching coach is a start.

I think if they were able to fix their pitching probs in the offseason they still can compete next season. Just re-sign Sexson.
