Celtics get: Marcus Banks (No. 13) and Memphis' No. 27 pick
Grizzlies get: Troy Bell (No. 16) and Dahntay Jones (No. 20)

The fallout: Neither Banks at No. 13 or Bell at No. 16 seems to be logical. The Grizzlies needed a strong shooting guard and took a point; the Celtics needed a point and took a shooting guard. But the deal makes things a little easier to understand -- Banks can help run the offense in Boston (and the Celtics made no secret of the fact they wanted him in recent weeks); Bell will be scoring option and Jones will add some defensive toughness in Memphis. "We got two players that, from an athletic standpoint, are at the top of the list in the draft," said Memphis GM Jerry West.

And Jason Kidd's opportunity with San Antonio has just ended. Unless Parker is traded, the Spurs have the PG position shored up for many years.

Explanantion

Jerry West is old and broken down after getting props for Shaq and Kobe wanting to go to LA.

So he trades Drew Gooden for MIKE INJURED MILLER and now Banks and Perkins for 2 players that weren't first round prospects.

I think it did when Parker started put up consistent 18/6 since Februray.
With Tony Parker on their roster they can use their cap room much better than on signing of Jason Kidd.

But right now with Parker and Barbosa there is a zero chance of Kidd in SA.

SA just traded Barbosa to the Suns.

At one point Jim Gray said he and talked to Jason Kidd this afternoon. He said that Jason Kidd would visit San Antonio for a couple of days at the beginning of July. He said his choices have come down to New Jersey, Dallas, San Antonio, or Denver as a longshot. Gray finished by saying that Jason Kidd thinks his best chances for an NBA championship are with Tim Duncan in San Antonio, but his wife's first choice is to stay in New Jersey.

I'm interested to see what SA does. Jason Kidd can talk all he wants about wanting to go to the Spurs, but if they say, "Thanks, but no thanks," that's all that really matters in the long run.

I'm sticking with the Dallas rumor. It makes the most sense.

Spurs need to replace the Admiral with another big man more than anything. Parker and Speedy played the poisiton well enough to win and are still young and improving. Spurs clearly don't need a point guard.

Kidd is only using Denver for negotiating power because they have cap space. But there can't be any serious interest on either side. Denver's team is 2 young to want Kidd and Kidd want's to be on a winner.

I'm betting that Cuban will do whatever it takes to get Kidd. If a deal falls through with Dallas than that only leaves one option for Kidd. He stays in New Jersey. Because I don't think there really are any other options if he wants to be on a winning team. And since he narrowed his list there really aren't any other options.

So it'll be Dallas if a deal can be worked out or it's back to New Jersey.

You know what's really funny? I don't really think teams are clamoring over Kidd the way the media insists. I think this whole "frenzy" has been fabricated by the media and the Kidd's. I think the sad reality is that none of the "winning" teams are interested in breaking up their team to do a sign and trade. I don't think he's the key to putting any of the "elite" teams over the hump so to speak.

Yep. I wonder how much the Spurs have even discussed him. Not a lot, I'd imagine.

The question is, if Kidd is set on leaving New Jersey, and he uses Denver as leverage to try to force a sign-and-trade with Dallas, will New Jersey help him out, or call his bluff? I can easily see the Nets saying, "Oh, you're going to Denver, are you? Okay, go right ahead. If you change your mind, we're here with a max contract for you, but you can forget about getting paid by the Mavericks." And then Kidd will be forced to stay in New Jersey and claim that it's what he wanted to do all along.

Exactly. In fact the Kidd's have plotted this thing down to every detail with their agent. In fact the whole Joumana thing about wanting to stay in New Jersey is probably all part of the fall back plan so they don't lose face and make it look like they have to come crawling back when all other options fall through. It's all very brilliant really but definitely plotted out. It's all very desperate and sad when you think about it.

I guess the media conveniently forgot that Don Nelson publicly said two days ago that Nowitzki, Nash and Finley were untouchable.

Someone posted it as a long shot but except for being in our division, Kidd on the GS Warriors with their athletes would be fun to watch.

He would replace..Earl Boykins, Gilbert Arenas?
He would be playing in his home town.
He would be a good fit with Richardson, Dunleavy, and Jamison.
There are a couple big guys to spoon feed.

Of course with out a big man to score consistantly in the post he wouldn't be winning the championship any time soon. He would probably be better of in the east with NJ.
