How about we do a trade extremely lopsided in favor of the Diamondbacks?

Trade a mediocre end of the rotation starting pitcher for a power hitting, good fielding right fielder.

And it wouldn't even take Josh Byrnes to arrange it.

All it would take would be for Bob Melvin

to hand Micah Owings an outfielders mitt and take his pitcher's mitt, and tell him to practice his 350 foot throws . . . and tell him the RF job next season is his to lose.

Meanwhile, Josh Byrnes could be arranging to move our "laid back" (as they said on TV, when he couldn't field a ground ball to end the inning) 1B Conor Jackson to the American League, as part of a package for a starting pitcher.

Its amazing how quickly Micah's bat has become so overrated. Guys like Livan Hernandez and Carlos Zambrano have long been the best hitting pitchers in the entire game, yet nobody in their right mind would have them play in the field. Yet somehow, people actually think that Owings would be able to play as the starting right fielder.

I think Micah is going to be a good pitcher. Livan will probably not be back so Micah will be counted on.

Pretty muck Co Jack, Q, & Tracy will be are biggest bargaining chips this offseason but injuries that will shelve Q & Tracy will really hurt their trade value.

His hitting performance in his starts and as a pinch hitter.

That athletic diving putout in Game 4 of the post-season.

Hey, coyoteshockeyfan, it just might work. And all we'd be losing is an 8-8 starting pitcher.

Why write it off with one post? It's a good thing you weren't at Kitty Hawk.

With freaking Byrnes signed for three years I have a feeling they might trade Carlos Gonzalez.

Pitchers who have a WHIP of 1.28 and an ERA+ of 109 (not to mention a .500 record with inconsistent run support) in their rookie season are a lot harder to replace than you are making it seem. As seen last offseason, a free agent veteran with that kind of performance would get a contract worth eight figures a year. To say that "all we'd be losing is an 8-8 starting pitcher" would be a gross underestimate. By the way, he had a single hit in his limited pinch hitting performances, so I wouldn't exactly be trotting that out as evidence that he would be a right field quality hitter.

You're thinking and I like that, but the downside is just too significant to try such an experiment.

I think they will try to trade Quentin first but everyone will ask for Gonzalez. I don't know if I'd want Willis, he has been inconsistent the last couple of years. I'd prefer to go after Schilling or Prior who I hear CHI is more than willing to trade than trade young talent for underwhelming SP's.

The Byrnes deal will hurt unless we can trade him, I don't believe he has a no trade clause.

Byrnes does indeed have that dreaded no trade clause. I'm not convinced he'd be tradeable even if he didn't.

He's so seriously overpaid that we are stuck with him. I understand from friends that at least one or two teams are pretty pissed at his contract because they feel they'll be on the spot for similarly mediocre youngish veterans.

In the circumstance that Owings COULD pull a Rick Ankiel, which is highly unlikely, you don't move decent young pitching unless you're getting it back in return.

Great idea. Lets sit the next Ken Griffey jr in Upton so we can have our 5th pitcher bat 5 times a game.

Damn I am glad the lot of us are just arm chair quarterbacks and not making key personnel decision....

OK, LF or 3B. Food for thought, guys. But, let's not bring up any ideas that go beyond the tip of our nose.

I can't help but feel that Micah Owings in the lineup every day would provide more to the D'backs in the long run than Micah Owings the #4 or #5 .500 pitcher.

Especially with the D'backs propensity to have a bunch of #6 hitters throughout the lineup.

How many homers would that guy have if he actually started every day? 25 or more?

(A) That would've led the team. But . . .

(B) I don't care about homeruns. I care about a bunch of RBI's and reduced strikeouts and popups.

The final score of a game isn't D'backs 3 HR's/Padres 2 HR's. It's runs.

Runners on base scoring. Driving them in with singles and extra base hits and, yes, our share of homeruns.
