So? There are plenty of intellectual movies, there won't be a shortage. I see and enjoy those far more, but every now and then I want a movie full of random violence. I want all action and hot chicks, I don't care about the characters, I hope they all die, I just wanna watch.

I love movies full of action and violence....but I also want to be entertained by a compelling story. This one really lacked a good story or characters to get you hooked and get involved with the movie. I never really got into the movie...so the action was just whirling pieces of metal on the screen to me.

They should have just put the Autobots and the Decepticons into a cage and let them have a death match for 2 1/2 hours. At least then a lame story and acting would not distract from the fun.

No-brainer action flick is a lame excuse to cover up how bad a movie is.

Or some people form time to time just want a fun movie without having to think about lifes great questions, moralities, ethics, and so on. Sometimes its great to take a break from that stuff that can wear you down from time to time. Not all movies need a tortured soul like Iron man or Batman.

Another voice of reason around here. :iwin:

Can't you just say "I agree"? I didn't call you stupid for your opinion, I hope you don't do the same.

A movie "full of random violence" doesn't have to be a complete failure like this one is. It doesn't matter what the movie is about, there's no excuse for making one that's almost unwatchable. Why can't an action movie be well made?

And I agree 100%. There are plenty of action movies worth the money to see. Transformers 2 isn't one of them IMO.

How do you base failure? Because this movie is certainly no failure.

And you're basing that assertion purely on the fact that it's making a ton of money.

It's certainly no surprise it's making a ton of money, what with the state of American audiences, but at least make it interesting and leave out robot fart jokes. I mean, come on! You find that entertaining??

Yup found the whole movie extremely entertaining. Some of it was silly and over the top of course. But thats exactly what I expect going in. I enjoyed it immensely and had a rip roaring good time. Will be seeing it a 2nd time in IMAX tomorrow.

On the same token I went and saw My Sisters Keeper yesterday whcih is the totally opposite spectrum of a movie and I can say I enjoyed it just as much. Just in a different way.

How else do you really measure success in movies other than $$$$ and Oscars?

I saw this, my kids loved it, my wife loved it.

I felt dirty, almost as if I needed to immediately rent some movie of cosequence as some form of offering to stop the wrath of the movie Gods.

Louis, that spoiler you have is FANTASTIC.

I don't mind giving the director some room to work but this guy just flaunts I DON"T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT NO STINKIN PLOT in your face.

It's as if he hates writers and thinks they're optional, I can't imagine ever putting my name on those writing credits, I'd rather light myself on fire with charcoal starter.

I yawned and nearly fell asleep because while the effects are awesome they are just like watching a compilation film of all the best effects ever since they have no tie in to a story at all, might as well watch a random two and a half hour special effects tribute.

It may go down though as the worst film to ever garner the most amount of money the fastest, I see that there is no hope for America now, I apologize for giving these people my money but I can't undo what's done now.

On the bright side, I love IMAX.... way cool.

Why should anybody have to defend a mindless bit of entertainment? Men all over America visit strip bars, attend left hand turn races and watch other people swing sticks at a little ball all in the name of entertainment.

Honestly, some of you need to get off your high horses already. If you didn't like the film fine. However, for those of us that did, there is nothing to defend. It was mindless popcorn fun. Who gives a crap if the story was crap or some parts of the movie were not that good. In fact, there were a couple things I hated but....I was still entertained. Isn't that the point of movies?

I can understand if your expectations were high and were disappointed. However, this was a Bay film and if you know anything about Bay films is that script is usually an after thought. Having high expectations of a Bay film would be like having high expectations of a McG film. You know what your probably going to get before you go. If you did probably know and still go...it's on you. I knew what I was getting before I went.

Robots kicked ass, the FX were cool and there was a hot chick. If that was enough for some people...get over it.

LOL, you should admit that we're not the only ones that are on our high horses. Read your post again. :D

Did I have high expectations? No, of course not. But I was at least hoping for a certain amount of competent skill at constructing an enjoyable movie. The robots looked crappy, they make them so over the top and complicated, when two robots are fighting, you barely know what's going on.

So don't start getting on YOUR high horse because if you accuse some of us of that, you'll definitely get called on it yourself.

yeah, the high horse of enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about the people trying to pee on your parade...............

i still haven't seen this (will wait for the crowds to die down a bit), but I think words like unwatchable and failure are a little strong given that it's going to be a great economic success, is obviously entertaining many people and is getting happily watched by many as well

For those of us blasting people for blasting the movie: get a grip. I'm not telling people they can't like it. I'm largely responding because people ripped me for not liking it. I presented my opinion and will defend it. If you like the movie, then yay for you, because it won't bother me. Why should it?

For Shane: You REALLY think I should have to argue against reviews? I could give two farts about reviews. They mean less than nothing to me, so I really don't care what the 'reviews' have to say about a movie. If I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't.

For Chap: Sheesh, we agree about something in movies? Armageddon! :)

For Shane: What do I mean by it tried to take itself too serious, and that it tried to be gut-wrenching and tear-jerking? The overwhelming drive of trying to make us feel sad about Optimus, the incessant 'when will they say they love each other' crap, the hamfisted attempt to create more drama by throwing the parents in there. To me, the writers clearly tried to make the story and plot more serious and emotional, and clearly failed. To me.

It was produced by Spielberg, it's got the same formulation, although he has done movies that had a plot.

The plot was so stupid, so hopeless it called attention to itself, it didn't have to be great or even good but the horrible nature of it starts to become a thing unto itself.

If you just sit and watch things blow up you won't notice it, that's the focus of the movie and for what it's worth they do a great job and IMAX makes it even more impressive.

It didnt' have to be that way though, that's the thing, why would they spend millions on writers to write that?

To me it's a mystery why.

Easily the WORST MOVIE OF THE MILLENIUM.

Shallow plot, horrible acting, wretched dialogue, predictible "twists", overly melodramatic crapfest.

Thank goodness for the explosions to keep me awake.

At least you heteros had Megan Fox to fixate on. I would imagine if they had replaced her with someone unattractive, all of you that liked the movie would have hated it.

Huge difference Chap. I am not blasting people for not liking the movie. I could care less if people don't agree with me but some of you can't stand the fact that other people might have enjoyed this movie. So comparing my horse to yours is like comparing a pony to a Clydesdale. Not everyone's criteria is the same for being entertained (which was the point of the last post if you read between the lines). Get over it people and let those that are flocking to the movie bask in the mindless fun that is Transformers 2.

P.S. Look at the bright side. Bay and the writers have both stated they are done with Transformers. This movie is going to make so much cake that there will be another. That means new director and new writers. Maybe you will get what you want for the next one. If there is a movie god then I will get the same outcome for the Terminator franchise and get McG and his hacks off of that franchise.

I think everyone missed how intricate the story really was. I felt the movie was about our experiences in the Middle East. The army was useless against the Decepticons and represents our army being engaged in a futile effort against an enemy that transforms itself. Eventually, the struggle will be resolved by a hero that rides in a '77 Camaro.

Megan Fox represents all they hate about us...freedom and a plump set of lips.

Shia LaBouef....nothing really he is just annoying.

Actually the movie showed that the Autobots needed the help of the US Army. We were the ones who shot the Decepticon off the pyramid. We were able to hold off other decepticons so Sam could get the key thing to revive Optimus.

Ok - this bugged the hell out of me -the geography was all wrong. the pyramids are no where NEAR Jordan - the two locations are hundreds of miles apart (not four). No pyramids on the Sinai. Israel was wiped off the map.

I realize 99% of the filmgoers don't realize this, but this type of discontituty drives me up a wall.
