Trent Lockett asks for scholarship release

Lockett, the Sun Devils' leading scorer, recently found out that his mother has cancer. He then informed coach Herb Sendek of his plans to play closer to home. It's still possible Lockett could return to ASU, but it's not likely. Since Lockett, an honors student, is scheduled to graduate this summer, he could transfer to another school, and under the right circumstances, play immediately.

Can't fault the kid for wanting to be close to his mom at a time like this.

It's not just Lockett, it's Creekmur and Cain leaving the program within the past week or so... not to mention the mass exodus over recent years. I think something like 12 players have left the ASU basketball program during the past four years. I have lost count.

There is something wrong with the Sun Devil basketball program too big to ignore. Lisa Love just recently gave Herb Sendek an extension when they should have been looking to replace him.

Doug Haller has been tweeting that Trent Lockett has been showing interest in transferring to schools that are located not near his reportedly ill mother in Minnesota. What gives besides slamming Sendek some more?

I'd like to know more about the ASU basketball program. The transfer of Trent Lockett to a location not near Minnesota does not sound right.

I'm looking back over my two posts on 4-7-12 and for some reason I was keyed in on Trent Lockett when in fact the post recent twitter comments made by Doug Haller were talking about Kyle Cain. I guess I was interchanging the two players in my mind although there were rumors Lockett was checking out Gonzaga.
