Miami Dolphins hired Marc Trestman, the ex Card OC, as a QB coach. That in itself was a fortunate career move for him. As I hear and translate the events, he could have had the Cornell HC job, but turned it down for good reason. In steps Dan Marino, the new VP of Football operations. Dolphins grab Trestman knowing Norv Turner is looking to get out from under Dave Waanstedt, who won't let Turner run his full package. Norv takes the local heat for running a soft offense. He takes the Raider HC job, which came up when Davis unhired Payton. NO way in heck Marino will let Dave Waanstedt run a mushy offense down the road. Turner opts out , Trestman goes from QB coach to OC & QB coach. Dan Marino wants David Rivers or PJ Lohsman with the #1. Trestman gets an easy ride this year with the Marino transition. Marino dumps Fiedler and it's either Griese or Brunell with Trestman developing the new kid and transitioning the offense to up tempo. It's nice to see Marc get a good ride. I really like the guy. If Dave doesn't get Dolphins into the extended playoffs next year he is gone. He just got a 2 year extension, but that is Wayne Huizenga saving face with the media who he has a raging ongoing battle with over Dave. Who knows, Trestman does a good job and he could be HC Dolphins. No way this Dolphin's team gets to playoffs next year. Who said you can never go home again? Trestman has come full circle from his U of M days. He loves it down here. :D

P.S. And Jerry Sullivan is the new receivers coach. This must be the Cardinals East Coast version. Trestman and Sullivan with Marino. Lightin' up the scoreboard.

Didn't they hire Trestman as QB coach AFTER Turner the OC left?

What makes you sure he's going to be the OC now is that the local rumor?

Would be interesting, if I were Ricky Williams I'm not sure I'd like this. I think Trestman can do the job but he has proven repeatedly he does NOT like to run the ball, will be interesting to see if he will now that he has Williams.

They hired Trestman last Friday. Here is the article outlining the timeline. When it was written, Turner hadn't been given the job yet.

Yup. That is what is being said here. Hank Goldberg , ESPN and QAM guy, is personal friends with Trestman and has been about 5 days ahead of the rest of the pack on this story. He was saying this last week. The Dolphins have a terrible o line and can't run the ball. Ricky has averaged over 350 carries the last 2 years and took a lot of heat when he publically stated he wanted less carries, because he was beat up and worn out. Fiedler is all but gone. Anyone want him. His name isn't even mentioned around here. They will most likely release him and his big contract. Not my guess, but the company line. Waanstedt has been told to throw the ball. There ya go.

Now the Miami Herald just came up with this.

" As for the Dolphins, they are expected to name Joel Collier as the offensive coordinator to replace Turner and promote Bernie Parmalee to running backs coach. Newly hired quarterbacks coach Marc Trestman is also expected to get an expanded role, perhaps as assistant head coach."

Interesting, thanks for the info. He had a similar situation with the Raiders where his job title and duties kept expanding.

Maybe Ricky will like him after all, to be fair he's never had a back of that caliber, none at all in SF, none really here(Murell, Jones, Pittman) and in Oakland they had too many RB's and only Garner fit the way Trestman wanted to play, and he used him pretty well.
