MONTICELLO - The balancing act between running a successful high school program and being a fully supportive sports dad couldn't work for longtime Twin Lakes head girls basketball coach Brad Bowsman.

Bowsman announced his resignation after 22 seasons in a written letter on X and was confirmed by the Journal & Courier on Tuesday afternoon.

The reasoning was simple: Bowsman wants to watch his daughter Addie play college basketball at Saint Francis University and spend more time with his grandchildren.

"I've been able to coach amazing players and I want to thank the great administrators that I’ve gotten to work for and the overwhelming support they’ve given me," Bowsman said. "Along with the fans who have been so loud and supportive cheering us on. It’s hard to thank everybody. It's tough to hang it up. But to still coach and make everything happen in my family life. It didn’t add up and this was the time to step away.”

Bowsman went 303-218 during his career and led Twin Lakes to two class 3A sectional championships and a 3A regional title in 2023. The group in 2023 was led by Addie and Indiana career 3-point leader Olivia Nickerson.

He first coached the Twin Lakes junior varsity program in 1996. Bowsman then became a full-time teacher at Twin Lakes in 2000 and was an assistant for three seasons before ascending to the head coaching position beginning in 2003.

Bowsman will continue teaching seventh-grade math at Roosevelt Middle School but will now get the chance to watch his daughter play from the sidelines.

Bowsman hasn't ruled out coaching in the future and hopes to still be a voice to basketball players in White County and help his eventual successor from afar.

"We just had our best players come through the program," Bowsman said. "We might have a rocky start for whoever is the new coach but we have classes coming- where I could see us having success again. We had some kids who were thrown into the fire this year and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do for next year."
