Ok what is the point of the big huge trade deadline in baseball if trades can still be made after it passes?

The July 31 deadline is really the non-waiver trade deadline. After that teams can place players on waivers. Once a player goes on waivers every team will have a chance to claim him. If a team does the players original team can pull him back and keep him for the season, let the other team take the player and his full salary, or work out a trade. Most MLB players are put on waivers to judge interest. If no team claims a player he can be traded to anyone. Many teams put in a claim to block their rivals from getting someone they want. In order for a player to be on the playoff roster he has to be on the 40 man roster by August 31.

It's great news for the Diamondbacks. Because Rauch was pitching well, they should get a better talent now than they would of two months ago.

I don't know, only 1 player to be named, and looking at their minor league system I don't see much considering they won't send us one of their top prospects for Rauch. I see how LAA totally ripped off TB for Kazmir and don't see MIN overpaying for Rauch.

Thanks for the explanation. However that system is completely ********. Like I said really makes no reason to even have a trade deadline if like you said almost EVERY player is put on waivers.

Seeing as Webb is very sketchy for next season, I wouldn't be surprised if they got one of the Twins' top starter prospects in their system for him.

I would be. Good starting prospects aren't given away for up-and-down relievers like Rauch.

Rauch did look good in his debut, striking out two in a scoreless inning and picking himself up a win.

Sigh.
Not that surprising. He's done very well lately except for an appearance or two.

Rauch has played two games and has 2 wins with the Twins. bleh.
He's given up no runs in this three innings in three games. That's to his credit.

The W's reflect more on the Twinkies scoring the go-ahead runs for him twice in three games.

D'backs fans are drooling. Is that what you meant by "bleh"? :)
