1) He holds onto the ball WAYYYYYYY too long...I get an anxiety attack everytime he drops back. This is almost like when Jake was here, but the attack didn't happen until the ball was in the air

2) He is scripting his throws. He looks at his target too long and gives the defense time to get there and make a play. Of course, this goes back to #1, if he would get rid of the ball sooner this probably wouldn't be a problem

I think Josh makes a good QB for the number 3 slot with Blake as the number 2 and Eli or Ben as the number one.

He has potential but you don't want to bet that much on him.

Comeon people!!! Where are all the "Josh can play" fans that thought he was a real deal after 1 good game. sure looks like he is going back to old self. Now where are all the God loving fans?

Shouldn't he be completing more than 50% of his passes?

I'm right here. Let's start with how many turnovers Josh has had in the two games he's been playing? That alone is big. Next, are our recievers covered or not? You gotta determine that before you can blame him for hanging on to the ball that long.

Josh is Ok...he is playing better than blake was when he was benched..but that is not saying much.. The thing on Mccown: he may be better if he would have started the last 3 or 4 games last season and we had pulled blake earlier this season...

He is not playing that poorly..but he is not going to win the game for us either..he is what he is: a 3rd round pick in his second season who has potential and will probably be a decent backup someday..somewhere..

No one is going to win the game for us with this coaching staff.

McCown is basically a rookie out there. Name me many rookie QBs that dont hang on to the ball to long back there?

One of the few exceptions to that is Harrington in Detroit.

McCown isnt playing badly and he is showing me he has what it takes to be a starting caliber QB in this league!

Bottom line is how many points did we score? How many 1st downs in the 1st qtr. I do not think we had any. He holds the ball to long when he should be throwing it away. I do not think he has adjusted to the speed of the NFL at this point and maybe never will.

Yeah, John, you have a geat track record as a judge of QB talent.

I thought Josh McCown played great today. Better than good, great.

Especially considering the first half play calling in the red zone.

I agree with you from what I have seen so far he throws bullets with so so accuracy but all his flaws seem to be very coachable especially with the right guy.

The play calling is awful the line play in front of him is sporadic at best and he has one really decent reciever playing on the road against a team that has to win to save it's playoff hopes.

Had the refs got the calls right and the field goals not been missed it would have been a close game.

Eli would probably have had several turnovers just from getting pancaked. He is no where near as mobile is McCown but heck nobody but about 3 QB's are.

McCown can also throw from the pocket and he plays with heart he has a good arm and seems to learn from his mistakes.

Obviously we should cut him now.

IMO this is the single most important thing. I haven't been a McCown fan since he hasn't shown much improvement till now. Jake never learned from his mistakes while he was here. If Josh continues to show improvement I'll be happy giving him 1 full year of starting.

The defense gave the Cards 4 turnovers and he still only produced 10 points.Nothing spectacular about Mccowns play there.

McCown was okay, but he didn't show me anything that knocked my socks off. His deep ball was merely average.

The biggest thing was that we had four turnovers and could get only one touchdown. A franchise guy needs to get us in the endzone IMO.

He gets one more game to prove his worth. If he plays average or bad we take Manning/Roethlisberger. If he has a great game take someone besides a QB. IMO he needs to play absolutely great next week. If he does I like wilfork or another impact D player.

How many passes did we have? Seems to me we ran a lot more then we passed.

I had to leave and taped the second half, but there were good signs in the first half. First, he uses his receivers. He already looks better throwing to Johnson and Poole than Blake. Blake seemed to think there were only two receivers on the field. McCown must throw a "soft" ball, since even Gilmore can catch it.

McCown is very mobile, though he has no clue when to slide. He is not afraid to take a hit.

McCown has outstanding arm strength and you can't teach that.

However, there is a problem. He has played so little that there will not be enough data at season's end to know if he can read blitzes and defenses. The Cards are not sure if he has "happy feet." They also can't tell how well he sees the field and envisions how it will set up when the ball gets to the receiver. Can he handle the "touch" passes? They might get an answer to that one if they threw a few.

I agree the play calling has been amateurish. The line played yet another poor game. I don't see what anyone lines about Spikes and Clement. They screw up the line so bad it is hard to evaluate the others. Jones is a lousy blocker as well. Only Boldin and Poole seem to understand that blocking is part of a receiver's job.

One play today said everything left to say about Smith. He took the ball about two yards deep and there was a good opportunity to the outside left. Instead he chose to push into the pile. In the old days he would have planted the right foot, cut sharply to the left, shifted gears and been going at top speed in two steps. Either he didn't see the hole or it looked too far away with his current abilities. In either case, he is simply not an NFL talent at this point of his career; not with this line anyway.

For my money, if they have the first pick they still take Manning. I think McCown has played well enough to fetch a second or third round pick and he should be traded if they take Manning.

Harry...interesting that mccown may fetch a 2nd or 3rd round pick..I think if he has a very good game against minnesota - that could be a possibility.

I wanted to point out that Skorp and others have thought parsons was better than mccown based on practices and preseason (which is all we really had to go on historically). Also...according to Mike Jurecki - 2 unidentified coaches thought parsons should be ahead of Mccown on the depth chart.. and he dropped enough hints so that you could figure out it was chryst and sullivan. If someone is truly convinced that parsons is on par with mccown...and if we draft a qb in round one...and keep blake..then it would be very realistic to trade mccown - as parsons and blake would not get you much in the terms of picks..

by the way...mccown played better in the 2nd half...until they hit the red zone and the entire teamed seemed to melt..

Manning vs. Ben R

Harry - Perhaps you touched on this in other threads, but you seem to favor Eli over Ben. Why so? Ben looks more impressive to me in every phase of the game.....and before you knock the MAC, that League played some great football this year. Would love to see you break it down, Dr. Jack Ramsey-style.....

McCown is a very good athlete, he could probably be a good QB with the right coaching, but never a great QB - in my opinion. At least he has earned a right to compete for a job in the NFL these last two games.

I still want to see Parsons.
