One of the state’s top high school basketball players opened up his recruitment.

Dezmon Briscoe of Crispus Attucks, previously committed to Iowa, posted on his social media account on Sunday he will open up his commitment from the Hawkeyes following the coaching change from Fran McCaffery. He said he will "continue to consider (Iowa) as I move forward," though the Big Ten school has not hired McCaffery's replacement yet.

The 6-9 Briscoe, who was named the City Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior, missed the early part of his senior season with a high ankle sprain, but has returned to lead Attucks into the Class 3A state championship on Saturday against South Bend St. Joseph.

In 18 games this season, Briscoe is averaging 15.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots per game. He is shooting 59% from the field and 73% from the free-throw line.

Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, Briscoe at one time had offers from Butler, Cincinnati, DePaul and West Virginia, among others.

After a lot of thought and conversations with my family and mentors, I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment due to the recent coaching change at the University of Iowa.

"I want to thank the entire coaching staff, the university, and Hawkeye Nation for believing in me and showing love throughout this process," Briscoe posted online. "This was not an easy decision, but it’s important for me to explore all of my options to find the best fit for my future — both on and off the court.

"With that said, Iowa is still a school I have great respect for and will continue to consider as I move forward.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. The journey continues!"
