Through three years has an inferior record than anybody else in the Pac-10 not named Stanford (he's been a whopping two games better than the Walt Harris and Jim Harbaugh 'Furd squads) and has a lower winning percentage through three years on the job than his weak Arizona counterpart Mike Stoops who he has never manged to finish ahead of in the standings. He's also 1-2 in the Apple Cup against Bill Doba who's about to get canned.

How exactly is this guy a good coach again?

"Coach Over Rated". Maybe he won't get his butt whooped against Hawaii this week.

It really is difficult to step into a program and turn it around in three years. Ty is getting talent in UW and they will continue to grow. I don't think that they will be winning the Pac 10 anytime soon but I would be willing to bet that they will have some winning records on the horizon.

Ty writes his own book no matter what program he's at. Give him 5 years and he'll probably give you 9 wins. After that he'll probably be an 8-win season type of guy. He will do that at most any D-1 program. That's his charm and also his downfall.

Plus he destroyed Notre Dame, just look at how much better Weis has done there since Ty left.

Whoops.

I've always liked him, he is not a great coach that will win multiple national titles but then he's never had a job that allows you to win multiple titles you can't do that at Stanford or ND anymore because of the academic requirements.

UW should be an easier place to build but I don't think he's ever going to have them on top of the Pac 10 the way USC recruits and with Cal and ASU and Oregon all being good.

Next year could be interesting I have a feeling Cal and Oregon will be REALLY down next year.

If his team does not beat Hawaii, 2 things will happen.

#1 Hawaii will be incorrectly validated in the BCS

#2 Willingham will be publically( in the sports world ) ridiculed.

That's the thing - a good coach should have Washington consistently better than ASU, Oregon, and especially Cal. This is a program that was one of the top ten in the entire country for much of the 80's and 90's and whose football revenue is second the Pac-10 only to USC and is way above everybody else.

To be honest I never quite understood HOW UW was that good? The local talent base doesn't seem to be that good I never quite got how they were that good for that long, where they are now seems a lot more "right" to me?

Cal has Tedford who while obviously having a down year has such a good reputation as a coach he's elevated that program. Oregon has NIKE and the infusion of money has helped immensely with facilities and recruiting and they're reaping the benefits now.

I thought UW was going to be better this year after the way they started so I do agree that Ty hasn't done a great job this year.
