Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland? If the Indianapolis Colts were able to choose between the top two tight ends in this year's draft class, who would they select?

Ultimatley, that's going to come down to what the Colts are looking for in the position and which player best fits that mold because as Daniel Jeremiah pointed out recently, each brings a different skill set to the NFL level.

"With them specifically," said Jeremiah on a recent conference call, "I think it's just a flavor thing, you know, what do you value, what do you prefer. Loveland, a little more quickness off the line, a little more quickness at the top of routes, can really create separation. Warren is just a big, massive bully who is going to wall guys off down the field. I think he's better on the move.

"Whereas Loveland, if you are talking about gearing down and working back to the quarterback, he's going to be a little more comfortable there.Whereas I think Warren, you run him down the seam, you're running on overs, doing those types of things. And he's just a bully when the ball is up in the air, and he's a pain to get on the ground."

The Colts need a much greater presence in the passing game at the tight end position. Last season, the four tight ends on the Colts' 53-man roster combined for just 467 receiving yards the entire year. As Jeremiah laid out, both Warren and Loveland can provide the Indianapolis offense with that element, but will do so in different ways.

However, not to be forgotten about when discussing the tight end position in Shane Steichen's offense is the importance of being able to contribute in the run game as a blocker. In that respect, Jeremiah gives Warren the advantage, but Loveland can hold his own.

"Stylistically different," added Jeremiah. "I would give Warren the edge in the run game, but Loveland competes in that department as well. I have them touching each other on the list, not just in the tight end position but overall. Warren is at six, and Loveland is at seven."

If the Colts find themselves in a position where they have the ability at pick No. 14 to choose between Warren and Loveland, the draft has played out quite well for them up to that point. While we wonder who they might prefer, that decision could be made for them with Warren potentially being a top 10 pick. In that scenario, the question is no longer Warren or Loveland, but instead, does Loveland check enough of the boxes for the Colts at tight end?
