All I know is the kid looked the part last night.

That sack was a thing of beauty. Wrap and twist for the take down. The little juke by the QB didn't even phase Mathieu.

The Punt return had a feel of Patrick Peterson to it. So dangerous with the ball in his hands.

I'm more optimistic about Mathieu today than I was a few weeks ago. This kid has so much potential that I just hope he can keep out of trouble.

So impressed with the guy. At no time did he look "small" out there. I have been so pumped up about this guy that is especially satisfying to see him succeed. I think he is one of those rare talents that you cannot measure in inches and pounds. And you better believe that having PP21 and Matheiu on the same defense will force opposing offensive coordinators to focus on the DBs. I think this will be the year a Cards player exceeds 10 sacks.

Can't get enough of how natural the sack and tackle were:

The team stats sometimes differ from the official NFL stats. Especially when it comes to shared tackles and solo tackles.

Not sure that I have ever seen a much more impressive tackle personally. 99% of players miss that tackle and the QB makes a big play, but he somehow was able to firmly grab hold of not one but both ankles and twist him to the ground. Really impressive to watch.

And he's coming from one of the toughest positions on the field to get to the QB, and able to keep his balance while running full speed so that he could shift his hips either direction the QB went. Many players would have committed and went right by the QB.

(Should be noted that Amaya played awesome coverage on Mathieu's man in the slot. The slot receiver for sure missed a blitz read and never cut off his route)

Credit the coaches for getting him involved right off the bat. Doesn't look like they are trying to ease him into things. They know he has some special skills and they are planning on tapping into that early and often. Should be a fun season to watch.

The thing that strikes me is his hand and arm strength. With the amount of momentum going by, most could not grab and hold like that. The kid must have huge strong hands. It probably explains all the forced fumbles too.
