American Christian HS has announced they have disbanded the basketball program and will now focus on just being a school for elementary school and middle school kids.
While they are denying this it's believed to be in response to a lawsuit filed by a Seton Hall recruit Michael Glover. Glover was to be a freshman at Seton Hall last season but at the last minute the NCAA disallowed his senior year transcripts from American Christian ruling they were not acceptable and that he had to repeat the classes at an accredited school or attend junior college. Glover paid his own way to Seton Hall while waiting for a ruling on his appeal, but lost the appeal too.
In August 2008 Glover finally announced he was hiring a lawyer and filing suit against the NCAA to force them to rule him eligible at Seton Hall immediately on full scholarship. Tyreke Evans is a highly touted incoming freshman at Memphis who attended the same highschool as Glover one year behind him.
Evans is apparently fully certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse and his older brother Reggie(the NBA player) is denying that the basketball program was nothing more than a diploma mill he said it was a real school, it accomplished our goal of qualifying Tyreke for college, period.
I'm no lawyer but I have to assume the basis of Glover's suit has to be how can you deny my classes qualifying me for Seton Hall but one year later clear Evans for Memphis? I suppose the argument would be whatever the NCAA found lacking with his Glovers' time at the school, was corrected the next year and thus the classes were legit when Evans took them.
It's a pretty interesting story though because Seton Hall people are actively asking if Glover can't play for us, how can Tyreke play for Memphis? Evans was there at least 3 years so at least one year he and Glover were at the same school, the year the NCAA refused to accept for Glover.
Yet another weird case directly related to the NBA age limit rule forcing kids like Evans into college.
