Mar. 15—The UAA women's basketball team got a career-best performance from senior Tori Hollingshead to top Montana State Billings 69-66 Friday in the opening round NCAA DII West Regional Championships at the Torodome in Carson, California.

Hollingshead netted the career-high 28 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the floor. She added 10 rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

The Seawolves, seeded No. 4 in the region, led 65-53 with just 2:48 remaining in the game, but needed to fend off a fervent rally by the No. 5 seed Yellowjackets to hang on for the win.

"That's March," UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy said of the wild final minute in a school release. "We knew Billings was a great team coming into it. They've been a top-25 team all year, and we knew after we got a big lead at half that they were going to make a run at some point. Those last two minutes were a little bit crazy, but fortunately we were able to hang on. Their shot went in and out, and here we go — we get to start all over again tomorrow."

The victory pushed the Seawolves into Saturday's second round, where they take on top seed Cal State Dominguez Hills at 6:30 p.m. AKDT. UAA is ranked 16th nationally while Cal State Dominguez Hills (32-1) is ranked fourth in the nation.

Freshman Ashlyn Read added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Seawolves and UAA senior Jazzpher Evans added 11 points.

UAA was dominant for much of the early portion of the game and held a 39-24 halftime lead.

The matchup featured a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference foes. The Yellowjackets finished their season at 25-8 while UAA improved to 28-4 with the victory.
