UCLA fired coach Rick Neuheisel on Monday after four disappointing seasons in charge of his alma mater. Neuheisel will be allowed to coach the Bruins (6-6, 5-4 Pac-12) in Friday's Pac-12 title game at Oregon, athletic director Dan Guerrero announced. Offensive coordinator Mike Johnson will be the Bruins' interim coach if they receive a bowl berth.

Has there ever been a coach fired for poor performance the same week his team is playing in a conference championship game? Weird when you think about it.

He should have never been hired IMHO but yeah it's odd. How about 2 coaches in the same conference both being canned but allowed to coach the bowl game?

I know why with UCLA, they wanted to make sure the boosters know they're doing something so it leaked out he was canned and then they had to announce it.

Another odd fact from college football last week regarding a potential conference champion......... On it's last game of the season, potential Big East champ Louisville was a 4 point underdog to the worst team in that conference.

Apparently UCLA will probably target Boise State's coach Peterson, don't think they'll get him. I wouldn't take the job if I were him.

Every school will be after Peterson... UCLA can toss a ton of money at him so ya never know. But, Peterson's next move has to be to a bigtime program. Going to UCLA will be a lateral move at best, if not a step backward...

Well that's the issue UCLA can't really toss a ton of cash at him at least they never really have in football. With them being a state school it's very unpopular to pony up a ton of money for a football coach. If it's possible they might be changing basketball coaches (and it IS possible if UCLA continues to struggle this year), they're certainly going to save the big money bid for basketball not football.

I think UCLA canned Neu early to send a message to boosters because many of the ones in football are also basketball boosters and they want to make sure those guys keep donating to the Pauley renovation.

Lisa Love better be putting Sumlin on speed dial before UCLA realizes Peterson is going to turn them down and make a run at Sumlin.

Almost as weird as the fact that if they lose the conference championship game (and they will), they will finish with a losing record for the season.

Anyone want the job? Anyone? Al Golden of Miami just turned them down. Next up, Kevin Sumlin, Houston Cougars.
